The Don’s Forgotten Wife Took Down His Empire Chapter 03

I didn’t sleep a wink. I waited anxiously until morning and rushed to the hospital.

My mom lay on the bed, breathing weakly.

Tears spilled out as I grabbed her hand. “Mom, I’m here…”

“Mrs. Moretti, you’re finally here.”

The attending doctor walked in, his face grim.

“Your mother is stable for now, but her condition is deteriorating. She needs surgery soon.”

“Then do it!”

The doctor sighed. “But your account has been zeroed out. You’re at least 20 thousand short.”

A thunderbolt hit me.

My whole body went numb, cold sweat trickling down my back.

I never thought Damian would cut off my mom’s medical bills just to play housekeeper games with Serena.

Seeing my expression, my mom tugged at my sleeve.

“Scarlett, don’t beg him for me anymore…”

I shook my head, sobbing. “Mom, you’re the only one I have left. I’ll save you, no matter what.”

I rushed home. Damian was feeding Serena breakfast.

The whole table was covered with different dishes.

From simple bread and milk to caviar and filet mignon.

The stark contrast made me furious.

Thinking of my mom’s pale face, I couldn’t hold back. “Damian, why did you cut off my mom’s medical bills!”

Damian looked surprised. “I never—”

“I had them cut.”

Serena wiped her mouth and looked at me with arrogance. “Mrs. Moretti, according to the rules, your daily allowance is 50 dollars. If your mom needs money, go earn it yourself.”

I shook with rage. “You’re just letting her run wild?”

“Serena…” Damian finally said, “Maybe—”

Before he could finish, Serena cut him off.

“You’re going to spoil her again?”

She stood up, the chair scraping loudly against the floor. “When you brought me here, you said the whole Moretti house answers to me!

“And now your wife can break my rules with one word? Why should I stay? I’m leaving!”

Damian grabbed her arm. “Okay, okay, whatever you say.”

I stared at the scene, my heart feeling like it was splitting apart.

This was the man I’d loved for ten years.

My mom and I were just tools for him to please his mistress.

Looking at the feast on the table, I laughed bitterly.

“Serena, you tell us to be frugal, but you’re living it up. That dress you’re wearing costs tens of thousands, doesn’t it?”

Serena pouted carelessly. “Those rules are for the Moretti family. I’m not a Moretti.

“Do you rich people even know how hard it is for normal folks to make money? That seafood you eat for one meal could be a month’s salary for someone else.”

Standing there in her designer clothes, spouting nonsense like that—

I wanted to hit her, but I remembered Damian’s punishment and stopped myself.

The next second, Damian grabbed my throat, his face dark. “I told you, no one in this house bullies Serena. Did you learn nothing last night? I let you out the next morning so you could see your mom, and this is how you thank me?”

I swallowed all the humiliation. “I’m sorry, I was wrong. My mom needs help. She really needs 20 thousand for the surgery…

“Please, for the sake of all the years we’ve been together…”
