Family First? Nah. Revenge First. Welcome to My Heatwave Trap! Chapter 04

While I was busy stocking up on supplies, my brother’s family wasn’t sitting idle either.

On the exact day I had set, they called impatiently.

“Emily, we’re already at your complex.”

“It’s burning hot out here, but the damn guard dog won’t let us in. Call them right now and make sure they know who’s boss.”

I finished installing the last camera and wiped my hands in disgust.

My parents had always been like this.

They had achieved nothing in life, sitting at the bottom of society, yet they looked down on people who actually worked for their money.

I thought the security guard was way better than them.

I called the guardhouse, explained the situation, and apologized. They let my family through.

As soon as I opened the door, all five of them barged in.

Tyler charged into me the moment I opened the door, slamming his head right into my stomach.

Brooke saw it but acted like she hadn’t, clapping happily instead, completely ignoring that I was in pain and pale-faced.

“Haha, that’s my little man! You’re so strong.”

“You can already take on your aunt. You really are the pride of the Harper family.”

No one cared that I was clearly in pain.

They walked right past me and started inspecting the place.

Ryan complained immediately, “Why are these curtains that color? I don’t like it, Emily. Change them later.”

“There’s not even a computer here. How am I supposed to game? They said you were some big-shot executive. What a joke.”

Dad spit on my brand-new carpet.

“This place is tiny. Only two bedrooms? How are five of us supposed to fit?”

“They said you finally made something of yourself. Looks like you’ll never measure up to your brother.”

They criticized every inch of my home.

Brooke slipped into my bedroom like a shark and started touching all the skincare on my vanity.

“Sis, what brand is this Ocean Mystery stuff? Never heard of it.”

“It looks like that fancy La Mer one. Just give it all to me.”

She said it like she was asking, but it was a statement—she wasn’t really seeking my opinion.

Not that I cared anyway.

I had prepared this knockoff, no-brand skincare specifically for her.

Last time she had taken everything without permission.

This time, enjoy the knockoff disaster, Brooke. A ruined face was waiting for her.

Tyler ran through the guest room, then stormed back to the living room screaming, “Stupid Aunt Emily, there’s no toys here! Go buy me some now.”

“I want the cool action figures that all the city kids play with, so everyone will be jealous of me!”

Watching my overweight nephew throwing a tantrum made me want to laugh.

Of course there were no toys left out.

Last time he had destroyed my carefully collected collection the moment he arrived. When I scolded him, Dad slapped me twice.

This time I had hidden everything in advance.

They weren’t getting a single thing that belonged to me.
