“No.” I refused immediately.

After graduation, I had fought hard to get into Northpass Strategy.

I had barely managed to build a life in Dunmere.

If I left now, everything I had worked for would be wasted.

All day, I sat at my desk, distracted, trying to figure out who had taken that video.

Dana looked genuinely sorry and lowered her voice.

“With your situation, even if you send out resumes now, other firms may not touch you.”

“The only way out is to find the source and beg them to forgive you.”

I stood frozen.

One name rose in my mind before I could stop it.

Dashiell Kincaid.

Other than him, I couldn’t think of anyone with enough influence to punish me for Elodie.

“Hand off your work to Pippa,” Dana said. “She overlaps with you the most.”

When I walked downstairs, I happened to see Dash picking Elodie up after work.

I hesitated for a few seconds. Then I chose to go around them from a distance and avoid him

completely.

Back home, I started sending out resumes. Just as Dana had said, no company replied.

The few responses I did get were all rejections.

On the third day of lying around at home, with rent pressing down on me and savings draining fast, I finally gave in and started applying outside Dunmere.

Luckily, three days before my lease was due, I received an offer from a company in Crestwick.
