Second Life: The Mafia Wife’s Cold Awakening Chapter 07

Chapter 7 Reckoning

I was ready for him.

The second he lunged, I dodged to the side and drove my knee hard into his stomach.

Lucian groaned and doubled over. I seized the chance to snatch the dagger from his hand and pressed it against his throat in a reverse grip.

Cold steel on his skin. Just like he’d done to me once.

Lucian gasped for breath, glaring at me viciously. “Do it! Kill me! Even as a ghost, I’ll haunt you!”

“A ghost?” I laughed. Cold. “You think I’m giving you the chance?”

I dragged him to the window. Pointed at the docks. “Look. That was your kingdom once. Top killer. Everyone feared you. Kissed your ass. But you just had to be greedy. For one woman, you betrayed the Don, killed your own child, and turned yourself into a pathetic stray dog.

“Shut up!” Lucian roared. “Don’t you dare mention that child!”

“Why not? ” I pressed the blade harder, cutting his skin. “That was your baby too! How could you be so cruel? You threw me and him into a twenty below freezer. I listened to his cries grow weaker and weaker until they stopped. You’ll never know what that felt like. ”

Lucian shot his head up, shock flooding his eyes. “You… what did you say?”

“I said I was reborn. “I stared into his eyes, saying every word clearly. “I watched you freeze me and our baby to death in that freezer. I watched you and Liliana celebrate over our bodies, saying you’d finally gotten rid of us two burdens.

“This time around, I came back for one thing. Revenge.”

Lucian’s body shook violently. He stared at me, terror and disbelief in his eyes.

“No. Impossible. This can’t-” He was mumbling. “You’re playing me. You have to be lying.”

“I’m not lying.” My voice was ice. “Mia. The pills. You gave the order. I know all of it.”

I paused. Then: “And Liliana? You think she loved you? She loved your power. Your rank. Now you’ve got nothing. She already sold you out.”

“Shut your mouth!” He was shaking now. “Liliana would never betray me. You don’t know her. She f*cking loves me!”

“Love?” I laughed, the sound dripping with irony. “If she loved you, she wouldn’t have taken all your cash and screwed other men while you hauled crates. If she loved you, she wouldn’t have called me the second you went underground-offering to trade your location for her own neck.”

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and played a recording.

Liliana’s familiar, sweet voice floated out. “Mrs. Ashford, I know where Lucian is. He’s going to the mansion to kill you tonight. I’ll tell you all his plans if you let me live, okay? I’ll never do it again, I’ll never show up in

front of you again.

The recording ended.

His face turned to ash.

He stood there frozen, his eyes hollow as if his soul had crawled out.

Time stretched. Finally his mouth opened, but the voice that crawled out was wrecked. “So… none of it was

real.”

“Yeah, all of it,” I said. “You torched your whole life for a woman who never gave a sh*t about you. Killed innocent people. And for what? Don’t you think you’re pathetic?”

Lucian suddenly burst into a fit of manic laughter, tears streaming down his face.

“I’m such a fool… I’m such a goddamn fool… ” he laughed and sobbed. “I failed you… I failed the baby… I was wrong… I was so wrong…”

Watching him break, I felt absolutely nothing.

A dying man’s remorse. Weighs less than ash.

I put my weight into my hand, and the dagger sliced through his carotid artery.

Blood gushed out, splattering all over me.

He collapsed to the floor, his body twitching a few times before going still.

I stared at his body and slowly closed my eyes.

Every wound. Every scar. Every scream that echoed across two lives-silent now.

Finch walked in. Glanced at the corpse. “Mrs. Ashford. Everything’s handled.”

I nodded. Wiped blood from my cheek. “Dump him in a mass grave. Nobody gives him a burial.”

I stepped out of the mansion, and the sun was already rising.

I took a deep breath, feeling the boulder that had weighed on my heart for two lifetimes finally lift.

Now. Liliana’s turn.
