Chapter 6 The Trap

The docks burned all night before the flames finally died.

Warehouse No. 3 was reduced to a charred ruin, and 100 million dollars’ worth of weapons turned to ash.

The news tore through the underworld.

Everyone waited to see how Dominic would punish me, and what move Lucian and the Sorenzos would make next.

When Dominic rushed back from headquarters, I was standing in front of the ruins, staring blankly at the rubble.

No reprimand. No demotion. He just draped a coat over my shoulders. “You’re alive. That’s what matters. I’ll handle the rest.”

“No.” I shook my head. Turned. Met his eyes. “This is mine. I’ll clean it up. Lucian’s coming for me. I’m gonna catch him with my own hands.”

He fell silent for a moment, then nodded. “Fine. I’ll assign you our twenty best elite bodyguards. Tell Finch whatever you need. But remember-don’t act recklessly. ”

“I know.”

I wasn’t acting recklessly. I knew Lucian inside out.

He was arrogant and impulsive to a fault.

After his failed frame job and then burning the warehouse, he thought he had the upper hand-and he’d definitely press his attack.

His threat to attack with the Solorenzo family in three days wasn’t a bluff.

But he wouldn’t wait three days. He’d hit early. Try to catch me flat-footed.

I deliberately leaked a story that the Don had ripped me apart for the losses. Stripped my command. And I was now rotting away in my mansion, drowning my sorrows in vodka and despair.

I even pulled half of the bodyguards from the estate, leaving a deliberate opening.

Finch Marco looked worried. “Mrs. Ashford, this is a hell of a gamble. Lucian was once the top assassin after all. He’s lethal. If anything goes wrong-

“Nothing’s going wrong.” I checked the chamber of my pistol. “I’ve spun a web in here. He walks in, he doesn’t walk out.”

I hid all the bodyguards in every corner of the mansion, leaving only myself in the living room as bait.

At one in the morning, a faint noise came from the mansion’s back door.

A second later, a dozen dark figures slipped inside silently.

Sharp and coordinated. Definitely pros.

Leading them was none other than Lucian.

Still limping. That leg wasn’t healed. But his eyes-those were feral.

He spotted me on the couch and his mouth twisted into something ugly.

Finished

“Serafina, didn’t expect to see me again, did you?” He closed in on me, step by step. “Thought you were safe holed up in here? Today, I’m going to kill you myself and take back everything I lost!”

I set down my glass and looked up at him, my face a mask of cold indifference.

“Lucian, do you really think you’re that clever? ” I said calmly.

His face twitched. “The f*ck is that supposed to mean?”

“I mean, ” I smirked, “your fate was sealed the second you burned that warehouse. I leaked those lies on purpose to lure you here.”

Before I finished, the lights exploded on.

The bodyguards hidden in every corner burst out at once, a dozen guns aimed straight at Lucian and his

men.

The color dropped out of his face. Only then did he realize he’d walked into a trap.

“Kill her! F*cking kill her!” His voice cracked. He pulled his trigger first.

The shot hissed past my ear. Buried itself in the wall behind me.

A violent gunfight erupted instantly.

They were ruthless bastards, sure. But ruthless doesn’t beat trained. The Vittori guards cut through them like a scythe. A few minutes of muzzle flash and screaming-then nothing.

Only Lucian and I were left in the living room.

He stared at the bodies covering the floor, then at me, his eyes filled with despair and madness.

“I won’t-I won’t let it end like this!” He howled. Ripped a blade from his belt. Lunged.
