Reborn to Watch Him Regret Choosing My Twin Chapter 11

Sterling’s hand shot out and clamped around her throat.

“Are you trying to die?”

Mira clawed at his hand, her face going purple. The grip tightened. Then suddenly released.

“Sterling Sawyer. She’s no better than me.

“You want to bet? Her first call will be to you. Begging you to fix it.”

The man in the driver’s seat didn’t answer. His ragged breathing gave away every thought in his head.

One minute passed.

Five minutes.

Seven. Nine. Ten.

Half an hour. A full hour since I’d left.

The pinned message thread at the top of his phone stayed silent.

Mira couldn’t sit still anymore.

“It’s impossible… She’s a cheap whore who wants her sister’s husband! There’s no way she wouldn’t call

you!”

Sterling couldn’t hear a word she said anymore.

The image of Grey helping me out the door was burned into his skull.

A roar of static in his ears. “Get out!”

Mira opened her mouth. Then she saw his eyes. She scrambled out the door, nearly falling.

The second her feet hit the ground, the car tore away like an arrow loosed from a bow.

Outside my apartment, Sterling hammered the elevator button. Rush hour. Every car was packed.

His frantic state scared the people around him. Murmurs spread.

He scanned the lobby and bolted for the emergency stairwell. Twelve floors. He took the stairs three at a time. Sweat plastered his hair to his forehead. The burn in his legs dragged at him like hands pulling him back.

He burst out of the stairwell at the twelfth floor, charged to 1201, and pounded on the door.

“Clara! Open the door!”

The knocking shook the walls. Silence inside. Then the crash of a glass shattering. It snapped what was left of his sanity. “Clara! Snap out of it! He’s not me! I’m here now. Just open the door. Please.”

The door didn’t open. The neighbor’s did. An older woman came out with a feather duster, swatting at him

in irritation.

“What is wrong with you, young man? Hollering like that? Your wife cheating on you in there?”

He turned. His bloodshot eyes looked ready to kill.

The door slammed. She didn’t hesitate.

He knocked all night.

Grey brought me back from the hospital in the morning. We found Sterling collapsed by the door,

hollow–eyed.

I walked up and kicked him in the leg.

Sterling stirred awake. His eyes were a map of broken veins. His voice came out raw.

“Clara…”

His gaze found the hospital papers in my hand. Then slowly crawled to the hand braced at my waist.

He pushed himself up from the ground and swung at Grey. “You animal!”

I screamed and threw myself in front of him.

The fist stopped three centimeters from my chest. Grey caught his hand.

Sterling stared at me, disbelief shattering across his face. “Why? Why are you protecting him?”

“Sterling Sawyer. If you want to lose your mind, go do it at your own house.”

He laughed. It came out as a sob. He staggered back, “Yeah. I’ve lost my mind. Because you–you’re trash!”

He raised his hand and pointed at Grey. His fingers trembled.

“To get back at me for choosing Mira, you got drugged and you just let him screw you? You ended up in the hospital over it?”

I never expected to hear the same filth from his mouth that came from Mira’s. Every last ounce of my patience evaporated. “Sterling Sawyer. Not everyone is as disgusting as the two of you.”

Grey pulled the medical report from my hand and flung it in Sterling’s face. “Clara’s right. Not everyone sinks as low as you and your wife.”

“Here’s a little tip. When someone gets drugged, you don’t screw them–you take them to a damn hospital. They have medicine. Look it up.

The papers scattered on the ground. Sterling looked down. He stayed there, frozen, for a long time. Before the door closed, I gave him my final word. Cold.

“I’ve already filed a police report. This time, I’m not backing down just because she’s my sister.”
