As consciousness faded, the memories crashed over me like a tidal wave.

Not long after I gave birth, Arthur moved into the basement. He said he needed more time to train.

Back then, he was just an ordinary warrior.

Desperate to make deputy commander, he locked himself down there every day. Barely came out except to

eat or use the bathroom.

My mother-in-law was too sick to help. So I resigned from my promising pack judge position and raised the

two children alone.

My son was a terror when he was young. Got in a fight with a classmate. Nearly blinded him.

To beg for forgiveness, I knelt before the injured child’s parents. Bowed my head to the ground.

As a mother, I understood their rage.

So when they hit me, I stayed on my knees and took it.

Three broken ribs. One nearly punctured an organ.

Only then did they drop the charges. I saved my son’s future.

My daughter was born with weak kidneys. At twelve, her therapist recommended a transplant.

Arthur turned and walked away. Said she wasn’t worth it for a female wolf.

I didn’t hesitate. I gave her one of mine.

When they were little, my kids clung to me.

But somewhere along the way, they got closer and closer to their successful, accomplished father.

It hurt. But I never blamed them.

Until I overheard them talking to Arthur.

“Dad, you’ve worked so hard all these years putting up with that useless old woman. I can’t stand it anymore.”

“Dad, you deserve better. If you want to dissolve the bond, Mia and I will support you completely.”

“Still, I wouldn’t dissolve it. Without her, who’s gonna take care of you? Good unpaid servants aren’t cheap

these days…”

In that moment, I felt a chill. A chill ran from my heart straight to my bones.

All those years I’d raised them. Sacrificed everything. And they saw me as nothing but free labor.

I woke up in a hospital bed.

A young nurse muttered under her breath while changing my dressings.

“Those two kids are so ungrateful. Their own mother is seriously injured, and they demanded the therapist treat that young female wolf first. She barely had a scratch!”

“Honestly, if I had kids like that, I’d cut them off completely. Just awful…”

Another nurse nudged her when she noticed I was awake.

The first nurse went pale and started apologizing profusely.

I just forced a faint smile.

“It’s okay. You’re right.”

Her eyes went wide with shock.

Outsiders could see the truth more clearly than I did.

A week later, I checked myself out of the hospital. Alone.

I was about to hail a cab when my son called.

His voice seethed with anger. “Mom! Lily says you haven’t picked up Ryan in a week!”

“Lily has a job! The whole house is falling apart and you’re out there doing nothing? Have you no shame?”

“You’ve got two hours. If you’re not back, don’t bother coming back at all.”

He hung up.

Right then, my daughter’s message popped up.

[Mom, how long are you gonna be lazy? My apartment looks like a pigsty! Get back here and clean it. And I want pork rib soup!]

Cabs were scarce outside the hospital.

I stood in the cold wind. Hesitated. Then I opened that Mindlink channel I’d sealed shut so long ago.

Across the Mindlink-a vast, windswept emptiness-an old voice answered. Rough but trembling with

emotion.

“Elaine… I’ve been waiting for your Mindlink for thirty whole years.”

My nose stung. Tears pricked my eyes. “Liam… Brother… come take me home.”

“I’m on my way.”

Minutes later, twelve Rolls-Royce Phantoms pulled up in a perfect line before me.

A tall, commanding middle-aged wolf alighted. Just one look at him and my eyes went red.

“Liam…”

He looked at me with so much ache in his eyes. This Alpha-ruthless and stone-faced in front of the pack-

lifted his hand and gently wiped my tears away.

“Don’t cry. Your brother’s taking you home.”

“You made your choice. No going soft now.”

I nodded. “I won’t.”

Never again.
