The surgery took a long time.

Damian’s hand was badly damaged.

The healer said he might never even be able to make a fist again. Let alone shift his claws. Or draw a bow.

For an Alpha heir, that meant he was done.

Alpha Lester and Luna Clara rushed to the pack hospital. They almost fell apart.

Luna Clara collapsed at Damian’s bedside, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.

Alpha Lester stood at the door, staring at his unconscious son.

His face ashen. Speechless.

I sat on a bench in the hallway. All night.

Just before dawn, Vera showed up.

She wore a loose dress. Her face was pale.

Dark circles under her eyes. No makeup. Only a hollow exhaustion left in her gaze.

She didn’t look at me. She just walked straight to the door and stared through the glass.

Damian still hadn’t woken. The anesthesia hadn’t worn off.

He lay there, still. His right hand wrapped in thick bandages.

She watched for a long time. Then she turned, walking toward me.

“Damian loves you.”

“I bought a pregnancy potion from the witches. And I told his parents I was pregnant.”

“Now I got what I deserved.”

“I gave your father the address. And now Damian’s the one who paid for it.”

“Even the potion failed. I lost the baby.”

Damian woke up the next afternoon.

Luna Clara sat beside him, dabbing at her eyes.

Alpha Lester stood with his back to the bed, looking out the window. His shoulders hunched.

After a long silence, Damian’s eyes found mine.

“Raven.” His voice was soft. Like he was afraid he’d break something just by speaking.

“This time… I didn’t let him hurt you again.”

I looked at him quietly.

He lay there with his right hand heavily bandaged. His face was pale and drained of color.

That once-proud Alpha heir-now like a wolf with broken claws.

I thought of that night ten years ago.

After my first shift. I had rushed blindly into the forest and crashed into his arms.

He looked down at me. His amber eyes reflecting the moonlight.

“I’ve finally found you.”

That night would never come again.

“Focus on your recovery,” I said. My voice was calm, even to my own ears.

“Damian, we’re even now. Completely.”

His face turned even paler. His lips moved but no words came out. He only nodded slowly.

I turned and walked out of the room. Pulled the door shut behind me.

The hallway stretched long.

At the end, a window filled with light. Afternoon sunlight spilled in, pooling warm across the floor.

Step by step, I walked toward it.

My leg still ached, faint but present. But it didn’t stop me anymore.

A hybrid healed slower. But it healed all the same.

Outside, the forest stretched endlessly, dense and green all the way to the horizon.

I took a deep breath and shifted.

My silver-gray fur shimmered in the sunlight.

I lifted my head. And let out a long howl.

The sound carried through the forest and across the valleys until it faded into the distance.

Then I ran into the depths of the woods.

And I never looked back.
