Proposed to Him with a Deed but He Already Had a Child Chapter 03

That evening, Ethan came to my hotel.

My eyes stung the moment I saw him.

“Why did you lie to me?”

If he had told me the truth sooner, I would never have worked myself half to death trying to buy a home. I

would not have promised my mother that I would bring home the man I was going to marry.

Ethan held out a debit card.

“Nora,

there’s three hundred thousand dollars in the account. The PIN is your birthday. Consider it

compensation.”

“Sabrina and I… our marriage was a business arrangement between our families. There were things I

couldn’t control.”

To maintain his poor-boy act, Ethan had never sent me more than a hundred dollars at a time. Now he was offering me three hundred thousand all at once.

I stared at the face I had loved for ten years and felt every trace of that love shatter.

Ethan’s eyes softened for a moment. “You can still stay with me if you want.”

“You can pretend none of this ever happened. We can go back to the way things were, as long as you don’t

cause trouble for Sabrina.”

My answer was a slap across his face.

Ethan pressed his tongue against the inside of his numb cheek, and his expression turned dark and

menacing.

“I admit I didn’t handle this well, but I do care about you. Haven’t I taken care of you all these years?”

“I paid for your mother’s treatment. I helped cover your rent in New York. Even the project that earned you your promotion-I called in a favor to get it for you.”

“If you stay with me, I’ll give you thirty thousand dollars a month, and you can choose any one of my luxury

homes.”

Everything I had believed I earned through my own hard work had his fingerprints all over it.

He kept claiming he cared about me, yet he wanted me to become his mistress and help destroy another woman’s marriage.

I threw Ethan out.

That same night, I packed my bags and prepared to leave Port Haven.

Just as I was about to go through airport security, someotic dumped an entire bottle of water over me.

“You’re the homewrecker who went after my sister’s husband? You have no shame!”

I stood soaked in the middle of the terminal, every stare around me piercing my skin like a needle.

My best friend stood off to the side, looking uncomfortable.

“You think I’m the other woman too?” I asked.

Megan Price closed her eyes for a moment.

“Nora, even though we’re close, I can’t defend you. You… are the other woman.”

“Sabrina is innocent. You can’t destroy someone else’s family.”

The crowd began to stir, and someone posted the video online.

The comments section filled with abuse. I was doxxed, and my name, school, and employer were plastered

across the biggest gossip accounts.

My phone grew hot in my hand from the flood of vicious messages sent by strangers.

Then someone from HR called.

“Nora, don’t come into work for now. Wait until you hear from us.”

The private aide caring for my mother called next.

“Ms. Blake, the specialist team is preparing to withdraw from your mother’s case. They said you offended

the wrong people.”

My mind went completely blank.

With trembling hands, I called Ethan.

“Why are you doing this to me?”

I could hear people arguing in the background before Ethan snarled into the phone.

“You forced me to do this. Sabrina knows about you now. I warned you!”

The call ended.

As one hateful comment after another appeared online, I put together a post documenting the timeline of my relationship with Ethan and our life together to prove that I was not the other woman.

The post was quickly mass-reported, and my account was suspended.

For the first time, I understood how futile it was to fight back against someone with that much power.

Ethan called again.

“Go live and apologize to Sabrina, She’ll forgive you, and we can keep seeing each other.”

“The offer I made you still stands. Nora, you’re smart enough to know which choice to make.”
