The Silent Wolf: From Broken Mother to Shadow Queen Chapter 08

My heart lurched. I hung up immediately, shifted, and ran.

The moment I walked in, I saw two big wolves, in human form now, cuffed in silver restraints and chained to the wall.

It had to be them.

Fury exploded inside me. My wolf roared, and I lunged, wanting to rip out their throats.

The enforcers grabbed me fast and held me back.

I struggled, trying to break free. But their grip only tightened.

I broke down sobbing, helpless, nearly passing out from the sudden rage and grief.

“Luna, we’re truly sorry for what you’ve been through. But for your safety, please don’t go near them. They’re dangerous. Let’s head to the office and go over their statement.”

The enforcers held me up as my legs gave out and led me into the interrogation room.

Once they got me seated, they pulled out a recording stone and played the audio.

“We’d been scoping things out for a while and found out Ellis Vale was heading to pup camp for two weeks. Figured it was easy money. He’s Shadow Moon Pack’s heir, after all.”

“We never planned to kill him. It was Christine’s actions that set us off. The media coverage was everywhere, and we knew they’d already contacted the enforcers.”

“We were confused. We’d told Christine clearly through the pack link that we only wanted fifty million. An Alpha who controls gold mines, and he wouldn’t pay that much for his own heir?”

“Christine begged us for more time, so we gave her three days. During that time, we actually treated her pup pretty well. Turns out she was just stalling.”

Their words suddenly reminded me of something critical.

Ellis had gone to an elite academy. Every pup at that camp came from Alpha bloodlines. For safety, the academy had specifically instructed the parents to keep the schedule confidential.

And when Dorian and I were packing Ellis’s training gear, Selka had been right there.

So they were the only ones who could’ve leaked Ellis’s schedule!

Regret drove into my chest like a blade of silver.

I hit my own forehead hard. Why had I mentioned any of it in front of Selka? Why?!

Afterward, I don’t remember how I left, or how I ended up at the pack clinic.

All I remember is the pack healer saying my emotional collapse and long stretch without food had caused severe blood loss. My wolf was too weak to heal on its own.

For the next few days, I got by on IV fluids and forced rest.

During my recovery, the enforcers brought news. They’d kept interrogating the two traitors, pressing them on who leaked Ellis’s private schedule.

At first, they refused to give up their source.

All they’d say was, “A contact mentioned offhand that Shadow Moon’s heir would be at the camp.”

But under continued questioning, they finally broke.

And gave up a name, clear as day.

Selka Reed.
