He Dropped Me at the Service Station to Take Her Home Chapter 09

The next day, I headed to class, and Cas was already waiting downstairs at the dorm.

I ignored him entirely. He followed me from a distance, always stopping right at the lecture hall

entrance.

Once it poured rain nonstop for an hour, and he stood out in the open soaking wet the whole time.

I pushed open my classroom window, glanced down at him, then shut the window without a second

thought.

Poppy Voss, my roommate, let out a low whistle beside me.

“Wow, what’s his deal? Pulling a massive guilt trip?”

I flipped a page of my textbook calmly.

“Let him do whatever he wants.”

A few days later, I walked out of my final lecture, and Izzy stood beside him.

The pair who used to cling to each other like soulmates now stood awkwardly apart, thick tension hanging between them.

Both stepped forward the second they spotted me.

I sighed deeply, worn out.

“What do the two of you want from me now?”

Izzy’s lower lip trembled, her eyes instantly glistening with tears.

“Ellie, I came here to apologize to you.”

I didn’t reply, walking over to a wooden bench and sitting down.

Izzy stood directly in front of me, and tears spilled freely down her cheeks.

“I never wanted to compete with you for anything. I know Mom favors me but I never thought I

deserved all that extra attention-”

I cut her rambling off mid-sentence.

“Are you finished?”

Izzy froze in place.

“Isolde, don’t stand there pretending you’re an innocent victim when you’re the one who’s reaped every single benefit. It’s incredibly tacky.”

Her face turned pale white, and she shook her head frantically.

I stared straight into her eyes, speaking slow and clear.

“Isolde, listen closely. I hate you.”

“Yeah, you never outright voice what you want out loud.”

“But you just stand there, quiet and pretty, and everyone rushes to hand you everything you could ever desire. Once you’ve gotten all of it, you cry a little, acting like you’re the one who’s suffered

unfair treatment the whole time.”

Izzy couldn’t cry anymore. She just stood there, her whole body shaking.

Cas stepped forward, brows furrowed in concern.

“Ellie, Izzy’s health is fragile-”

I shot him one cold, blank stare, then stood up and smiled thinly.

“Alright, you two should head off now. Wishing you a happily ever after together.”

Izzy dissolved into messy, gasping sobs and sank down onto the sidewalk, her shoulders shaking

nonstop.

Cas chased after me from behind.

“Ellie,

I don’t have romantic feelings for her at all.”

He trailed after me like a persistent fly. “Your internship was in Northvale, right? I submitted job applications there.”

By late October, Cas really did move to Northvale.

I never figured out what job he landed-he seemed to have endless free time every single day.

Each morning, he camped out under my office building’s front entrance with breakfast.

When I refused to take the food, he left it on the reception desk.

The office staff always ended up eating it.

One coworker asked me curiously, “Who’s that guy downstairs every morning? Standing around like a lovesick puppy.”

“My ex-boyfriend.”

“Wow, he’s totally devoted. What went wrong between you two?”

I thought about it briefly, then answered dryly. “He’s also desperate to become my brother-in-law.”

My coworker’s facial expression turned utterly shocked and comical.

After that conversation, every breakfast Cas left behind went straight into the trash bin.
