My Husband Backed His Assistant-Until He Learned She Had Killed His Mother Chapter 09

After everything Ethan had said to humiliate me, even speaking felt exhausting.

I said only one thing. “Call the police.”

Ethan froze.

“What?”

I looked at him.

“Don’t you think I arranged all of this? Someone died at the restaurant. This is a homicide.”

“Call the police. If I really sent someone there to cause trouble and it ended with someone dead, the police will find out. Whoever is responsible shouldn’t get to hide.”

Vanessa’s expression changed instantly. She was scared.

“Olivia, you can’t call the police to Margaret’s birthday party just because of some personal grudge!”

“There are board members, clients, and people from the media here tonight. The second police cars show up, the entire city will know by tomorrow. What about Ethan’s reputation? You’ll ruin Margaret’s birthday!”

Emily stepped forward and stood beside Ethan.

“Exactly. Some woman went to the restaurant to cause trouble and died. That’s all!”

“Making a bigger deal out of this will only make everything worse!”

Ethan looked at me and gave me exactly the answer I had expected.

“Today is my mother’s fiftieth birthday. I won’t allow anyone to ruin tonight. I’ll deal with what happened at the restaurant after the party. For now, stop causing trouble,”

Then he turned to Emily.

“Where is Mom now? The party started ages ago. Why isn’t she here yet?”

Emily shook her head.

“I don’t know. I’ve called her several times, but her phone is still off.”

Ethan frowned and called his mother again.

No one answered.

He had no choice but to turn back to the guests and reassure them.

“There’s been a small delay. My mother will be here soon.”

The guests smiled and started making excuses for her.

“Margaret must be taking extra time to get ready.”

“Tonight is important. Of course she wants to look her best.”

“There’s no rush. Let her take her time.”

“Her health hasn’t been good for years, and she rarely attends public events.

“We’ve all been looking forward to meeting the kind of mother who raised such a successful son as

Ethan.’

Vanessa also looked excited.

“Mr. Walker, I prepared a special gift for Margaret. I’ve been waiting to give it to her myself.”

Ethan smiled, clearly pleased with her.

“That’s very thoughtful of you. When she gets here, I’ll introduce you to her.”

Vanessa lowered her head, deliberately pretending to be shy.

“I just hope she’ll like me.”

Emily laughed.

“How could she not? You’re beautiful, smart, and you help my brother with both the company and

the restaurant.”

“You’re a lot better than certain women who do nothing but stay at home.”

I looked at them calmly.

“Too bad she won’t be coming.”

Ethan turned toward me.

“Olivia, what are you trying to say now?”

Emily’s voice rose into a shriek.

“If you can’t say anything decent, then shut up! Do you really have to keep saying horrible things on my mother’s birthday?”

Vanessa frowned at me accusingly.

“Olivia, why do you keep going after Margaret?”

“This is her birthday party. How could she possibly not come?”

I looked directly at Vanessa.

“Because you killed her.”
