The Devil Alpha’s Last Chance Chapter 05

“What did you say?!”

Zayden roared, the color draining from his face.

“Terminal stomach cancer?”

He rushed forward and grabbed Beta Gideon by the arms, his voice trembling uncontrollably.

“How could she be sick?”

How could that be possible?

Even though he had sent Yasmin to prison in Zara’s place, he had specifically instructed people inside to

take good care of her.

Besides, Yasmin had always been afraid of pain. If something had really happened to her, why hadn’t she

told him?

Zayden stood frozen.

Then, all at once, he remembered the injuries he had seen on her body.

Back then, Yasmin had cried and begged him to take her out of prison.

Why…

Why hadn’t he believed her?

Regret crashed over him like a tidal wave, leaving him barely able to breathe.

Gideon shook off his grip and let out a weary sigh.

“What a tragedy… what a tragedy.”

Zara’s heart skipped a beat. She immediately wrapped herself around Zayden’s arm.

“You old man, Yasmin must’ve hired you to put on this little show. She’s always been perfectly healthy. She even knocked over Snowball’s ashes just now. How could she possibly have terminal cancer?”

The moment those words left her mouth, Gideon began trembling with anger.

“The pet cemetery is on the west side. There are plenty of burial plots there. Why did you have to bury your dog in OUR pack’s cemetery, not YOURS?”

He pointed at Zara, his chest heaving.

“Why did you have to steal the grave Yasmin reserved a year ago? She came here carrying a terminal

diagnosis, begging for one last place to rest. That grave was the only comfort she had left.”

“You old fool! What nonsense are you talking about?”

Zara panicked and hurriedly interrupted him.

“I paid a witch to find a blessed grave because it would help Snowball reincarnate into a human. I didn’t know it belonged to Yasmin!”

“Besides, if she really wanted it back, I would’vexeturned it. Who are you to lecture me?”

Gideon had spent his entire life watching over the cemetery.

He had seen every kind of person imaginable.

He stared at Zara with cloudy eyes that were far sharper than they appeared.

Finally, he simply sighed and slowly shook his head.

“Such a good girl was driven to the brink of death by people like you, yet you’re still so talented at twisting

the truth.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You don’t need to put on a performance for me.”

Gideon cut her off coldly before turning toward the rows of graves.

“Every cause has its consequence. Every debt is repaid. When you’ve committed too many wrongs, don’t blame fate when retribution finally comes knocking/”

With that, he turned and walked away.

Zara glared at his retreating back, murderous anger flashing through her eyes.

Then she caught the dark expression on Zayden’s face.

She stiffened for a split second before immediately putting on an innocent, wronged expression.

“Brother, Gideon’s lying. If I’d known that was Yasmin’s grave, I never would’ve taken it.”

“You know I questioned everyone who had contact with Yasmin in prison. They all said no one ever hurt

her.”

“And now she’s even buying herself a grave just to put on another act. I’m honestly heartbroken.”

She sounded completely sincere, tears shimmering in her eyes.

But Zayden felt increasingly uneasy.

He reached over and awkwardly patted her head.

Enough.”

His voice was cold.

“The most important thing right now is finding Yasmin.”

He dialed her number for the ninth time.

Still no answer.

The emotionless automated voice echoed through the phone, striking his heart like a hammer.

A fear unlike anything he had ‘ever felt surged through him.

Seeing how pale he had become, Zara forced a smile.

“Zayden, what’s wrong? Yasmin has to be fine. We already checked everyone’s statements from the prison. No one ever hurt her. She must be putting on another show…”

“Shut up!”

Zayden shouted at her, his eyes frighteningly fierce.

Zara flinched, her eyes instantly filling with tears.

“Brother… are you angry because Snowball took Yasmin’s grave? I’ll dig Snowball up right now…”

In the past, Zayden would’ve pulled her into his arms/and comforted her gently.

This time, he only yanked his tie loose in irritation.

“Do whatever you want.”

Then he got into his car and sped away.

He left in such a hurry that he never noticed the cold, venomous look that settled over Zara’s face.

Zayden drove straight to Yasmin’s apartment.

He took out a key with practiced hands.

He had paid a locksmith to make it the day before.

It hadn’t cost much.

His hand trembled as he unlocked the door.

When he saw that everything inside looked exactly as it had before, he let out a long breath of relief.
