He Married Her On The Day We Were Supposed To Wed Chapter 07

After that day, Ryan never visited me again.

Lila intercepted the money he sent for my medical bills.

Without it, I could no longer afford the private suite. I was moved first to a standard room and then

to a crowded shared room.

The conditions were poor, and only the most basic medications were available. My recovery was painfully slow.

A month later, I spent the last of my money and had no choice but to check myself out.

As I traced the long, twisted dark-red scar across my chest, hatred rose inside me so violently that

it nearly swallowed me whole.

The first thing I did after leaving the hospital was go to the police.

“I need to report a crime. Someone stole my mother’s body.”

The detectives moved quickly. In less than a day, they traced my mother’s remains through the

hospital’s security footage.

The truth had taken them only a few keystrokes to uncover, yet Ryan had believed Lila based on

nothing more than a few accusations.

How ridiculous.

Based on the trail of surveillance footage, the detectives concluded that Lila and Megan had worked

together to remove my mother’s body from the hospital.

The detectives also reviewed their transaction records.

Lila had purchased a used chest freezer through Facebook Marketplace.

They believed my mother’s body was most likely locked inside it.

“Ms. Carter, we’re moving on them now. We’ll take both suspects into custody and recover your

mother’s remains.”

I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms.

Prison alone was too good for Lila.

I looked at the Facebook posts where she flaunted the exclusive hotel hosting her wedding, and a cold smile curved across my lips.

I wanted her to be dragged into the dirt at the exact moment she believed her life was at its most

perfect.

“Detective, making an arrest now could tip the other suspect off.”

“Lila’s wedding is in three days, and Megan will be there. It’s the one confirmed time they’ll both be in the same place, so you can arrest them simultaneously before either has a chance to run.”

After discussing it, the detectives agreed with my plan.

“Fine. We’ll make the arrests in three days.”

Three days later, Ryan had reserved the entire grand ballroom at The Pinnacle Hotel, one of New York City’s most exclusive wedding venues.

Towering floral installations nearly swallowed the crystal chandeliers, and a hundred tables had been set for an extravagant lobster-and-caviar dinner costing thousands of dollars per table.

Everyone said Ryan had gone all out because he adored his young

wife.

I adjusted my earpiece, reported my position to the detectives, and slowly entered the ballroom.

The wedding was already halfway over when I arrived.

The bride and groom were exchanging rings in front of their family and friends.

The moment I appeared, every face in the room tightened.

Megan spoke first through clenched teeth.

“What is a wicked witch doing at the prince and princess’s wedding? Elise, get out of my best friend’s wedding right now!”

Ryan’s sister, who had once treated me so warmly, also ordered me out with a cold expression.

“Elise, have some dignity. Even if you came here to stop the wedding, my brother would never change his mind. You and Lila aren’t even in the same league. Any fool would know which one to

choose.”

The rest of our mutual friends immediately joined in.

“Crash this wedding and cause trouble, and we’ll call the police. We used to be friends, Elise. Don’t

force us to do that.”

Ryan looked at me, his earlobes turning red as he hesitated.

“Elise, did you really come here to stop the wedding?”

“Don’t do this.”

I ignored all of them.

I strode to the AV table, seized the event coordinator’s laptop, and plugged in a flash drive.

“Stopping the wedding would be boring.”

“I’m not here to steal the groom. I only came to give the newlyweds a wedding present.

I clicked the mouse.

The enormous screen behind me began playing a video.
