Alpha, I Won’t Be Your Luna Again Chapter 05

I didn’t answer. I braced myself against the wall and made my way, step by step, toward the master bedroom.

The door was ajar.

Soft breathing drifted out.

The moment I pushed it open, my whole body went rigid.

On the big bed, Lillian was wrapped up in my blanket, fast asleep.

She was wearing my nightgown, her hair spread across the pillow I’d bought, a half-finished glass of milk and unopened fruit on the nightstand.

She looked exactly like the lady of the house — even like a carefully pampered mother-to-be.

And I stood in the doorway with a brace on my leg, my face pale, still reeking of antiseptic and smoke, ragged as some stranger who’d wandered in by mistake.

The noise must have woken her. Lillian’s eyes slowly opened.

When she saw me, she blinked, then reached up and stroked her flat stomach, giving me a lazy smile.

“Mira, you got discharged.”

Her tone was as light as if she were greeting an unwanted guest.

“You should’ve said something. Nathan’s out today, there’s no one here to make you soup.”

My face went cold.

“Get up.”

Lillian looked down at it and laughed.

“It’s just a blanket. Why are you so worked up?”

I walked over, yanked it out from under her, and pulled it into my arms.

It was filthy beyond saving, a hole burned into one corner by a cigarette.

Lillian nearly fell off the bed, her face changing.

“Mira, are you SICK?”

I held the blanket and turned to go.

But she stood up and blocked my way, her voice dropping.

“You really think you still matter?”

“Nathan doesn’t love you anymore. It’s that simple.”

“Those days you were in the hospital, he ate with me, shopped with me, spent the nights with me. While you were lying there losing your baby, he was buying me breakfast.”

“So tell me — what exactly are you?”

Elowen already had her phone up, recording.

“Keep going,” she said coldly. “Say more, so you can’t take it back later.”

Lillian caught sight of the camera. Her eyes flickered. She suddenly struck her own cheeks hard twice before sinking to the floor, forcing hot, fake tears to spill down her face.

“Mira, I already apologized, why are you still hitting me?”

“I didn’t mean to sleep in your bed, I really didn’t —”

The door slammed open.

Nathan was back.

He’d just finished a Pack Patrol shift, still in his black uniform, sweat on his forehead. The second he walked in, he saw Lillian on the floor, covering her face, crying.

“Lillian!”

He rushed over and pulled her up.

She clung to his sleeve, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.

“Nathan, don’t blame Mira… it’s my fault, I shouldn’t have touched her things…”

Elowen spoke up at once. “I’ve got the whole thing on video, she just —”

“Shut up!”

Nathan didn’t listen to a word. He turned and slapped me across the face.

CRACK.

The blow sent me into the closet door. Pain exploded through my fractured arm, and the blanket tumbled to the floor.

Elowen was furious. “Nathan! Are you INSANE? She just got out of the hospital!”

But Nathan just glared at me, teeth clenched.

“Apologize to Lillian.”

I steadied myself against the door and slowly stood, blood at the corner of my mouth.

“You want ME to apologize to HER?”

“Yes.” He stared me down. “I’m counting to three.”

“Three —”

I bent down, picked the Mate Bond Dissolution Agreement up off the floor, shook it open, and held it out to him.

“Nathan. Break the mate bond.”

He snatched it and tore it up again.

“I told you, I’m not signing.”

“Then I’ll sue.”

With that, I grabbed the box and headed for the door.

I’d barely reached it when a sharp cramp tore through my stomach and everything went black.

Cold sweat broke out down my back.

Elowen’s face changed. “Mira!”

I grabbed the door frame, my legs buckled, and I dropped straight to the floor.

Before I lost consciousness, I heard her screaming.

“Call an ambulance! She’s hemorrhaging!”
