A Gift for the Don: I Aborted His True Love’s Heirs Chapter 03

His palm pressed against my swollen stomach. His voice dripped with false warmth. “You two used to get along well, didn’t you?”

“Of course.” I forced the words out, enduring his hand splayed possessively across my belly.

Aldo suddenly cleared his throat. “Don, Luca just called. There’s a situation at the docks that needs your attention.”

Damian withdrew his hand. He paused at the door.

“Stay on the estate tonight. You’re in no condition to be going anywhere.”

The moment they were gone, I staggered to the nearest wall. My back was soaked with cold sweat.

My fingers shook as I pulled out my phone.

I had never looked at Nina’s social media before.

But now, something drove me to open it.

And there it was. The cruel evidence slammed into me without warning.

She had posted a video thirty minutes ago.

In the video, Damian cradled the back of Nina’s neck with excruciating tenderness. He brought a specialty pill to her lips.

His fingertip brushed gently across the corner of her mouth. His gaze was so soft it stabbed through my chest.

The caption read: [Thank you for being there every night. For taking care of me when no one else would. You’re my everything.]

My fingers scrolled down without my permission. More intimate photos flooded the screen.

Damian holding Nina in her hospital room. Damian brushing her hair. Damian bending down to kiss her lips. Slipping the family ring onto her finger.

The timestamps showed these were all taken on nights he claimed he was “handling family business.”

My stomach convulsed violently. I rushed to the bathroom and retched.

When I looked up, the mirror showed me a face with bloodshot eyes, dark shadows beneath them, and lips bitten raw.

This broken, dying woman. That was me?

How had I let a marriage destroy me like this?

After a sleepless night, I went to the hospital alone the next morning.

“Donna Audrey, your uterus is tearing.” Mira’s expression was grave. “This pregnancy has done serious damage to your body. Terminating at this stage is just as risky. Does the Don even know you’re here? Why not at least consider a reduction first?”

I clutched the test results. I was about to speak when I heard familiar footsteps at the end of the corridor.

Damian was pushing a wheelchair. Nina, wrapped in a soft velvet coat with the Falcone crest pinned to her collar, leaned against his chest.

Four Falcone family guards stood at the end of the hall. As if they were guarding the family’s most precious treasure.

He bent down. Tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. His fingertips lingered on her pale cheek with aching tenderness.

I knew that look too well. It was the devotion reserved for a true beloved.

“Healer. I’m done. I want this pregnancy terminated.”

“All six of them.”

I wiped away tears I hadn’t even noticed and walked out of the examination room.

Nina’s voice rang out.

“Audrey!” Her tone was frail but laced with unmistakable triumph. “Damian told me about the pregnancy. I thought he was exaggerating! How could he let you come here all by yourself?”

Damian finally noticed me. His expression froze.

But Nina was already reaching out. Her cold fingers brushed across my swollen belly.

“Your belly is huge! Damian, you’re so cruel. Making Audrey carry this many at once.”

She patted his chest with playful reproach.

He caught her wrist. A low laugh escaped him. “Didn’t you always say you wanted children? These little ones are all for you.”

My stomach heaved. I bent over, retching uncontrollably.

“Audrey!” Damian grabbed me with feigned alarm. The heat of his palm seared through my clothes, making me shake. It only made me sicker.

“I’m fine.” I wiped my mouth and forced myself upright. “Same as always. Just morning sickness.”

He frowned, scanning my gaunt, hollowed face. He reached out to touch my forehead.

“You’ve lost so much weight. Have you been eating properly?”

His counterfeit concern nearly made me laugh.

Watching him play the devoted husband, I suddenly remembered last night’s video. The same tender gaze he’d worn while feeding Nina her medicine.

“I’m fine. I’m used to it.” I stepped back, evading his touch. “Stay with her. I’m going home.”

Back at the estate, I walked straight into the nursery.

Six cradles lined up in perfect order. Each one laid with blankets I had sewn by hand.

Countless sleepless nights. Every stitch was woven with my hopes for the future.

Now, none of it meant anything.

I started packing.
