He Wrapped Me Up for His Crush. Now I Live in His Head. Chapter 01

Harper Lane, the cheer captain, was the star of Lakeview High. She casually mentioned one day that she’d never seen a real mummy.

My childhood best friend Logan immediately decided to make one for her.

He rounded up all the guys in our class, knocked me out, wrapped me head to toe in white bandages, and hung me from the flagpole in the main quad.

I woke up to the sound of students laughing. Someone had already filmed it and posted it on TikTok. Some awful guy spit on me.

For two whole hours.

I hung there like a clown while the entire school walked past.

Logan finally showed up, grinning as he cut me down.

“Queen Harper wanted to see an actual mummy display. We were just messing around,” he said casually. “You won’t actually get mad, right? You know me better than anyone.”

I stared at him in silence.

I stared at the guys behind him still laughing, and at Harper in the corner covering her mouth to hide her smirk.

I got it.

In their eyes, I was nothing but entertainment for Queen Harper. A school-wide joke.

After that day, I transferred.

I refused to keep playing the circus clown for the prince trying to impress his princess.

Logan lost it.

“You know me better than anyone, don’t you?”

“Why are you leaving?”

After gym class, I had just grabbed my stuff from the storage room when a group of guys surrounded me.

Leading them was Logan Hayes, my childhood best friend.

He flashed that bright smile of his.

“Hey, Avery. Come here.”

Before I could react, something slammed hard into the back of my head.

For a split second, I thought I saw hesitation in his eyes. It was so brief I might have imagined it.

Then excitement took over.

My world went dark, and I lost consciousness.

The last thought before I blacked out was: Logan, what are you doing?

When I woke up, I was wrapped so tightly in white bandages from head to toe that I couldn’t move.

Only my eyes and nostrils were exposed so I wouldn’t suffocate, but it let me see everything happening around me.

I was hanging from the flagpole in the main quad. At least twelve feet off the ground.

Worse, every time the wind blew, I swung back and forth like a broken doll.

It was right after school. Peak foot traffic. Everyone would pass through here.

And there I was, like some creepy decoration in the most visible spot.

“Hahaha, look! There’s a real mummy!”

“Who is that? I can’t even tell!”

“Quick, record it! This will blow up on the school gossip page!”

“Send it to me too.”

Dozens of phones pointed at me. The flashes burned my eyes.

I tried to scream, but my mouth was taped shut. All I could manage were muffled sounds.

Like a trapped bird fighting desperately even though no one was coming to save it.

People in the crowd recognized me and started shouting.

“What on earth? Isn’t that Avery? The one always following Logan around?”

“Avery Collins from our class? The girl who always wears black hoodies?”

“Wait, they actually tied her up? This is insane.”

“Insane? She’s always clinging to Logan. He must be sick of her by now.”

“Stop, she looks like she’s about to cry.”

“Then let her cry. Who told her to act like she was that close to Logan?”

The laughter grew louder. Every word cut like a knife into my chest.

Someone even spat on me.

The sticky spit rolled down the bandages. It made me want to vomit.

But I could only endure the disgusting liquid dripping over me.

I struggled hard, but the ropes only tightened.

My wrists and ankles burned. I could feel my skin tearing, warm blood trickling down.

Two hours.

For two full hours, I hung there like an object for everyone to stare at, laugh at, and humiliate.

A physics teacher walked by, frowned, and hurried away.

No one helped.

I closed my eyes as tears streamed down uncontrollably.

Logan, is this really what you call a joke?

After sixteen years of friendship, that’s how little I meant to you?
