She Rejected the Mafia Heir, He Went Crazy Chapter 10

She Rejected the Mafia Heir, He Went Crazy Chapter 10

He turned his head and looked at me. His eyes were filled with a kind of extreme pain and sorrow. Slowly, tears spilled from his eyes.

“Why? Emily, I’ve done everything in my power to make it up to you. Why can’t you give me just one chance? Why do you have to like someone else? Why can’t you just look at me again?”

I watched Leonardo, nearly broken. He looked like he was about to shatter. But I felt not even a shred of pity.

“Leonardo. There’s no why. Some mistakes, unless time itself reverses, can never be undone. This

is the first time I’m saying this to you, and the last. We’re done.”

Leonardo stared at me in a daze. After a long while, a broken smile-somewhere between crying and laughing-spread across his face. “Emily Johnson, is your heart really made of stone?”

Maybe. But if you’re born in the mud, you have to be stone to survive.

Leonardo disappeared for a few days. During that time, I found a storefront and started planning

the renovation.

When he showed up again, I’d been busy all morning. My stomach was cramping with hunger. I was

just about to go to the convenience store to grab something to eat.

Leonardo handed me a bag of soup dumplings and sweet congee. “A Chinese client brought these

for breakfast. I tried them-they’re really good. I wanted to share them with you-”

Before he could finish, I took them and said, “Thanks.”

Leonardo froze for a second. Then his eyes lit up slightly, and he spoke carefully, a bit timidly. “I’m

sorry, Emily. That day, I lost control and said things I shouldn’t have. Can you forgive me?”

I didn’t speak. I filled my stomach bite by bite, then looked up at him. “Leonardo, does it really matter whether I forgive you?”

“Of course it does!”

“Fine. Then I’ll ask you three questions. Answer honestly, and I’ll give you a chance.”

“Ask!”

I looked at him. “First-why did you lie to me and hide your true identity?”

Leonardo pressed his lips together. “I was afraid…” He stopped, as if the words were too shameful to say aloud.

I finished for him. “You were afraid I was only with you for your money, right?”

Leonardo opened his mouth, the humiliation of being exposed written all over his face. He said urgently, “Actually, after we got together, I always wanted to find the right moment to tell you the truth!”

I nodded. “Alright, that brings me to the second question. If I hadn’t stumbled onto it by accident, when were you planning to tell me? Before the wedding? At the ceremony? After? Or were you going to hide it from me for the rest of my life?”

Leonardo clenched his fists. He couldn’t answer.

I continued. “Third question. If we had actually gotten married, what were you planning to do about Cecilia?”

Leonardo snapped his head up. He started to speak, but I cut him off. “But no matter how you answer, the affair is already a fact. To me, it’s the difference between eating shit and eating chocolate-flavored shit. Both are disgusting.”

Leonardo’s face went pale.

I let out a laugh, laced with sarcasm. “Leonardo, look at you. Even you, the one who did all this, can’t face your own mistakes head-on. So what right do you have to ask me, the victim, to forgive you?”

Leonardo’s mouth opened and closed. He couldn’t get a single word out. In the end, he left, slumped and defeated.

After that day, Leonardo was truly gone. And I worked on my job while building my side business.

A year later, my store opened smoothly. On opening day, someone sent two flower baskets and the deed to the property. It was in my name. There was a letter inside.

“Emily, you were right. I should face the mistakes I’ve made. So I won’t appear in front of you again. The property and the car are my compensation for what I did. I’m sorry.”

I tipped the envelope and a set of Mercedes keys fell out. I held them for a long time, speechless.

Many years later, that small shop of mine became a chain brand, with stores all over the world.

And Leonardo? His crime family ran into some trouble, or so I heard. Anyway… I never heard new of him again.

And that’s just fine.
