She Rejected the Mafia Heir, He Went Crazy Chapter 04

He came in a little later. He wrapped his arms around me from behind and asked in a muffled voice, “Emily, what’s going on? If I did something wrong, tell me. I’ll change.”

I didn’t answer. The faint scent of rose oil clung to him.

I suddenly remembered the tablet’s photo album—the private videos of Leonardo and that girl. One of them showed Leonardo massaging rose oil all over her body.

My stomach turned. I broke free, rolled to the farthest edge of the bed, and pulled the covers over myself.

Leonardo sat up. I could feel his angry stare piercing into my back. But in the end, he just took a deep breath and asked, “Emily, are you hiding something from me?”

I asked, “What about you? Are you hiding something from me?”

He paused. “No.”

I closed my eyes. Tears fell. I was completely disappointed. “Neither am I.”

The next day, I submitted my application. My manager looked at it, sighed, and said, “If you’re set on this, I hope you do well.” I nodded.

When I got home, Leonardo was smoking on the couch. When he saw me, he stood up. “Emily, we need to talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk about,” I said coldly.

His expression turned dark in a way I’d never seen before—dangerous and oppressive. “Emily, have I been spoiling you so much that you think I have no temper and will never get angry? Look at what you’ve done. A three-hundred-thousand-dollar bag. What other man would accept his girlfriend spending a down payment they saved for three years on a handbag?”

I looked at him and asked in return, “Is three hundred thousand dollars really that expensive?”

He froze.

I continued, “No one told you to spoil me. If you can’t afford it, don’t.”

His face went dark. After a moment, he laughed coldly. “Emily, I never took you for a gold-digger.”

With that, he kicked over the coffee table and slammed out.

I stood in the living room, looking at the wreckage. Gold-digger. So that’s how he’d always seen me. Pretending to be poor—was he afraid I’d go after his money? Absurd.

Leonardo didn’t come back for days. I wrapped up my work and packed. I took my clothes, jewelry, toiletries—nothing that belonged to him. The platinum bag, I kept. A reminder of how stupid I’d been. And a reminder to love myself more.

I picked up my two suitcases from the floor. Then I looked around this rental apartment I’d lived in for three years. Without my things, it looked the same. Like me. Insignificant in Leonardo’s life.

At the airport, I’d just cleared security when my phone rang. Unknown number. I answered.

A soft woman’s voice came through. “Miss Johnson, I’m the eBay seller. My nanny accidentally gave you my tablet. It has important personal files. Please return it. I’ll compensate you with a new iPad.”

I said with a mocking laugh, “Important files, like private videos?”

She screamed. “You looked at them! That’s invasion of privacy!”

Before I could respond, the phone was taken from her. A familiar voice came on. “Return everything intact, and you can name your price. But if I find out you’ve leaked those videos, there will be consequences.”

I was quiet for a moment. Then I said flatly, “Leonardo Vitale. The tablet’s on your living room coffee table. Go get it yourself.”
