He Missed My Emergency To Deliver Her Dog’s Puppies Chapter 09

“I’ll see you both in court.”

Julian stood there like the words hadn’t reached him yet.

Already gone. What did that mean, already gone?

The guests were already filing out. Every pair of eyes cut into Julian and Stella on their way out.

“Some medical genius. Didn’t even know his own wife had miscarried. Her parents were dying while he was out cheating. Should someone like that even be allowed near patients?”

“And her, posting all day about being an independent boss babe, acting like she’s better than every stay-at-home wife on the planet.”

“Turns out she’s a fraud. Wrecking someone’s marriage and spending someone else’s husband’s money while playing girl boss. I’ve got store credit there. I’m getting a refund.”

Stella pressed her face into her knees and didn’t move.

Arthur sighed and put a hand on Julian’s shoulder.

“This has blown up, Julian. People are already showing up at the hospital demanding you be fired.”

“The chief of medicine just texted. You’re suspended, effective immediately. Julian… good luck.”

None of it registered.

He ran. Drove home like a man possessed, talking to himself the whole way.

“No. No, she wouldn’t leave. She’s home. She got home from work and she’s there, waiting for me…”

He opened the front door. His whole body went rigid.

The apartment was exactly the way he’d left it. Still trashed. Completely untouched.

Five years of marriage. Every day, I’d made sure the apartment was perfect before he walked through the door.

Warm lights, clean surfaces, everything in its place. A home he never had to think about.

At first, he’d noticed. He’d thanked me, helped out. Then he stopped noticing. It became invisible. Expected.

He stopped lifting a finger.

Started calling it boring. Suffocating.

This was the first time he’d come home to chaos. And no one was there to fix it.

He called the station. They confirmed I was gone.

When he asked where, they wouldn’t say. Clearly, I’d made sure of that.

My wedding ring and my house keys sat on the kitchen island.

That was my goodbye. The only one he was going to get.

His parents called. One after the other. Tore into him. Called him a disgrace for losing a wife like me. Told him they were done with him.

Julian stood in the middle of the apartment. Motionless.

He stood there until the sky went dark. Until the city lit up around him and the smell of someone else’s dinner drifted through the window.

None of those lights were his. The woman who used to have dinner waiting for him every night was gone. Because he’d thrown me away.

His knees hit the floor. He covered his face with both hands and sobbed.

The court summons arrived within days.

Julian’s infidelity was on the record. He walked away from the marriage with nothing.

The hospital made its decision at the same time. Misconduct. Reputational damage. Terminated.

Stella was ordered to return everything.

The shop was ruined.

Even if she could scrape together the rent, it wouldn’t matter. Everyone knew what she’d done.

Old customers lined up to demand their money back.

The few new faces who wandered in were warned off by the neighboring shop owners. They didn’t stay.

Stella tried calling Julian. Begging him to help her one more time.

He blocked her number. Didn’t even see her.

She had no choice but to sell the shop. When she tried to find work, the answer was always the same.

But the moment HR Googled her name, the door was slammed in her face.

She ended up selling off her leftover inventory online for whatever she could get.

Then one day, she just packed up and left town.
