I Told My Domineering Husband I Never Enjoyed It Chapter 06

The lawyer I’d hired was already waiting for me at the house.

He stood as I walked in.

“I’ve drafted all the key terms based on the information and documents you provided.”

“Please take a look and let me know if you’d like anything changed.”

I read through every page carefully. Then I nodded.

“Good. I’ll send the remaining payment later.”

“Of course. If anything comes up, don’t hesitate to contact me.”

After he left, I carried the divorce agreement straight into the study and placed it on Rhys’s desk.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the framed photo sitting beside it.

A few months ago, we’d had dinner at a candlelit restaurant when a photographer snapped our

picture.

He’d sent it to me afterward.

I’d thought it looked nice and casually forwarded it to Rhys.

I never expected him to have it printed and framed.

I picked up the frame and tossed it into the trash.

After that, I went upstairs and packed my things. I was moving out tonight.

Turned out I had way more stuff than I’d thought.

By the time I finished, it was well past midnight. I dragged my suitcase downstairs.

Just as I reached the front door, Rhys walked in. His eyes immediately landed on my suitcase.

Neither of us spoke.

Then he broke the silence, his voice hoarse.

“Why didn’t you wait for me?”

Wait for him? Wait until the middle of the night?

I didn’t even bother answering. I just tried to walk around him.

Rhys moved closer, blocking my way.

His face showed a trace of fatigue, but his expression stayed cold.

“Going to find him, are you?”

“You even lied about not having a husband anymore-just so you could be with him?”

“So what does that make me?”

I stared at him in disbelief. “…Who? Kellan?”

“So that’s what you think of me?”

His eyes locked onto mine.

“Then why are you leaving?”

Before I could answer, he spoke again, “Or is this another one of your tantrums? Trying to get my

attention?”

I stood there without moving.

In the past, whenever Rhys was too wrapped up in work for me, I had pulled little stunts like that- hoping he’d spend more time with me.

And every single time, I’d ended up apologizing.

I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face. His head turned with the impact.

Word by word, I said, “The divorce papers are on your study desk.”

“Go sign them.”

“We’re filing for divorce tomorrow morning.”

Rhys didn’t move. He stood there like stone. As if he hadn’t heard a single word.

I frowned. “You…”

Slowly, he looked back at me.

“What did you say?”

I let out a humorless laugh.

“Was I not clear enough?”

He reached for me. I stepped back before he could touch me.

“Why?” he asked, his voice had gone hoarse.

I met his eyes.

“I hope you and Maren have a long, happy future together.”

I turned and walked away.

After standing frozen for several seconds, Rhys came after me.

“What does Maren have to do with any of this?”

I took another step back, keeping my distance.

He stared at me. “Explain it, Seren.”

I was already losing my patience.

“You’ve had your eye on Maren for a while now. You think I couldn’t tell?”

His brows pulled together even tighter.

As though I’d said something completely absurd.

“Seren. Do you even hear yourself right now?”

He stepped closer. That familiar sense of pressure settled over me again.

Before, I would’ve shrunk back without thinking. But not anymore.

What was there to be afraid of? He was about to be my ex-husband.

“Still don’t get it?”

I looked him straight in the eye. “You-”

His hand caught my chin.

His voice stayed unnervingly calm.

“So you’re accusing me of having an affair. Do you have any proof?”

My pupils contracted.

Ever since the comments had appeared…

I’d hired a private investigator to follow Rhys.

I wanted evidence, Real evidence.

But there was nothing. He and Maren had never met in private. Not once.

Still… did emotional betrayal somehow not count?

I shoved his hand away.

Then he asked, “If you don’t have proof… what are you planning to tell our parents?”

I looked at him sharply.

He meant both of our families. And he wasn’t wrong.

If all I had was the fact that he’d helped Maren at the gala… that wasn’t enough to prove anything.

I smiled faintly.

“What if I just say the marriage fell apart?”

“The marriage fell apart?” Rhys repeated, his eyes darkening. His throat bobbed once.

“When did that happen? Or is it because Kellan came back?”

“So suddenly you’ve stopped loving me?”

I slapped him again.

A bitter laugh escaped him. “You hit me for him now.”

I glared at him, seething.

“Stop trying to pin this on someone else. I never knew you were this kind of man.”

He was silent for a long time.

Finally, he said, “If you think something’s going on between Maren and me, I’ll call her over right

now-”

I cut him off, disgust flickering across my face.

“Maybe nothing’s happened yet. But it will.”

“And do you really have to make it this ugly?”

“Even if something did happen between you two, she’s young. She’s still an intern.”

“If anyone’s to blame, it’s a man your age taking advantage of her.”

Rhys’s face darkened. His lashes trembled slightly.

“You…”

I didn’t wait for him to finish.

I pulled my suitcase around him and walked out. The night air was cold.

The driver was already waiting outside.

“The Grandview Hotel,” I said.

I wasn’t ready to face my parents. Not until everything was over.

I rested my head against the window, watching the city lights blur past. Everything felt unreal.

A deep exhaustion settled over me.

Hopefully tonight… I’d finally get some decent sleep.
