The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 07

The Alpha Willfully Let His Beta Slay My Wolf Chapter 07

“Why did no one tell me?”

Cassian’s voice tears through the mental channel, every syllable soaked in disbelief.

The healer’s reply catches in her throat, barely audible.

“Alpha, I attempted to contact you… but you severed the connection, leaving one instruction.”

“Do not waste my time with an Omega’s trifles. I celebrate Vera.”

Memory slams into Cassian’s consciousness.

The pack secured a major contract.

He cracked silver-crown champagne at Moonrise Terrace. Vera on his arm in crimson. The pack roaring.

To prevent interruption, he silenced notifications. Blocked all emergency alerts from the medical wing.

He severed the mind-link entirely to placate Vera, reduced to tears by Seraphine’s scolding.

Vertigo hits him. A dull ache pulses behind his eyes.

Why did Seraphine, ever compliant, lose her composure at that council meeting? She accused Vera of stalling her treatment funds…

Cassian whips his head toward the woman beside him.

Startled by sudden malice in his gaze, Vera flinches like a frightened bird, tears springing forth.

“Alpha, what is wrong? Has Luna distressed you again? Please, do not agitate yourself… I cannot bear to see you thus…”

Cassian will not hear another word from her mouth. He draws a sharp breath, suppressing churning rage, and speaks to her in an icy tone for the first time.

“Vera. Give me your phone. I will review your schedule from that night.”

Color drains from Vera’s face. Her gaze skitters away.

“Alpha, that is private. Did I err in my duties?”

No explanation needed.

Cassian closes his eyes, finally confronting reality.

Her hysteria that day was not a power play. Not baseless accusations against Vera.

It was a cry for help.

When she walked out with a single duffel and demanded severance, it was not manipulation.

She truly wished to end all ties.

How absurd, that he convinced himself a few days of cold shoulder would bring her crawling back.

Late that night, I unzip my tent for air when a tall silhouette at the treeline freezes me.

Moonlight hollows Cassian’s features.

His designer suit is wrinkled ruin.

Hours have passed, yet he appears gutted.

When he sees me, his eyes ignite.

He rushes forward, then halts abruptly yards away.

“Seraphine.” His voice is hoarse, thick with guilt and desperate pleading.

“I have banished Vera to the northern border outpost.”

“She shall not set foot in central territory without my direct order.”

He studies my face, searching for clues, tone tentative, like a child caught.

“Regarding your wolf… I truly did not know. Seraphine, let me make amends. I shall summon the finest healers. Attempt forbidden rites if necessary.”

For a moment, hearing long-lost tenderness, I waver.

Clarity returns swiftly.

I have no notion what explosion occurred between him and his precious Vera in recent hours.

But one truth is certain.

I no longer love him.

“Cassian, do you truly believe our problem is merely Vera?”

Cassian looks lost.

His eyes are full of confusion, as if he cannot comprehend my question.

He lurches forward, reaching for my hand, but cannot bring himself to touch it.

“I know I ignored your feelings. I observed other Alphas. Assumed it was proper. I never realized I destroyed you thus.”

“Vera is a Beta. I thought you, as Luna, would understand my position.”

“If you forgive me, I shall dismiss Vera. If needed, I shall execute her before the elders!”

“I shall take you traveling. Anywhere you desire…”

Cassian still does not understand.

Not why I am finished with him.

He genuinely believes enough gold will soften me into forgiveness.
