His Camera Loved My Best Friend Chapter 01

His Camera Loved My Best Friend Chapter 01

When my coworkers found out my boyfriend was a photographer, they were wildly jealous.

“So getting good pictures must be effortless for you.”

“Damn, my man still doesn’t know how to focus.”

I smiled and shook my head.

“He only photographs landscapes, not people.”

That was Julian West’s rule.

Even on our first anniversary.

Even after I explained again and again that I only wanted the simplest tourist photo.

Julian still lost his temper.

“My last girlfriend broke up with me because I wouldn’t take photos of her.”

So I stayed careful for the next seven years.

Cautious.

Quiet.

Terrified of touching his rule.

Until today.

I saw my influencer best friend Vanessa Quinn’s newest Instagram post.

“Showing off my photographer.”

“He’s given me seven years of amazing photos and never charged me a cent.”

One highly liked comment sat beneath it.

“Photographing my muse is an honor.”

The profile picture was pure black.

It looked like Julian’s account.

Once that comment appeared, the whole comment section started shipping them.

“Everyone in the industry knows Julian West only shoots landscapes. Vanessa Quinn is the only person he breaks his rule for.”

“Have you seen Julian’s old work? Empty, cold, almost inhuman.”

“But when he shoots Vanessa, the light and the way he frames her are so gentle it doesn’t look like him.”

“I said seven years ago that Vanessa’s photographer was definitely in love with her. You all called me delusional.”

The comment section was burning with excitement.

I was the only one going cold.

I never imagined it.

The photographer who had shot countless photos of Vanessa for seven years, patient and gentle every time.

And Julian West, my boyfriend of seven years who still refused to take one photo of me.

They were the same person.

In his sleep, Julian called my name.

But all I felt was cold inside.

The comment section started posting screenshots from Vanessa’s private account.

That was when I realized the connection between Julian and Vanessa went far deeper than I knew.

She always called him her soft-hearted god.

“Hungry again. My soft-hearted god made me tomato basil pasta.”

The pasta in the photo looked perfect.

But I remembered the first time Julian cooked and burned the noodles into a blackened mess.

Back then, Julian had looked a little embarrassed.

“Wait for me. I’ll learn.”

Later, Julian did learn.

For Vanessa.

“Bad shoot day. He waited for me five hours in a snowstorm and didn’t blame me once.”

I remembered clearly.

Julian hated snow.

No matter how many years I begged, he refused to go to Vermont with me to see it.

But now, they were telling me that the man smiling while snow piled on him was Julian.

A dull pain spread through my heart.

The photos Julian refused to take, he took for Vanessa.

The snow Julian hated, he stood in for Vanessa.

Even then, some part of me wanted to keep hoping.

But I had to admit it.

To Julian, Vanessa was special.

His rules only applied to me.
