Moon-Wish Doll Chapter 08

Moon-Wish Doll Chapter 08

Derek brought my doll out carefully.

He and Dad had spent the whole night fixing my misshapen arm, smoothing the lumpy cotton back into place.

But the stretched, shredded outer skin where they’d ripped out the cotton stuffing was damaged

beyond any mending.

“Just as I feared.” Lucas let out a bitter, self-deprecating smile, his features heavy with dread.

He thought for a long moment.

Then he filled a basin with water.

He pricked Dad and Derek’s fingertips with a silver needle, letting their Alpha blood drip into the

basin.

He burned a bit of cotton from the Moonbound Doll and added it into the blood-tainted water.

A layer of moonlight spread across the surface, like a Moon Mirror leading to another world.

Inside, I was sitting in a sunny little yard, utterly at peace, happy and free of all fear and suffering.

“Claire.’

A familiar voice called out my name like a death sentence, and I shuddered violently with terror.

Slowly, I looked up.

Dad and Derek stared back at me, desperate.

Claire, please come back home. Dad and I swear we’ll never lash out at you ever again.

I was terrified.

The last thing I remembered was their angry faces.

They were going to send me to the asylum.

I screamed and covered my ears. “Don’t lock me away in the asylum! Don’t yank the stuffing out of my arm again! It hurts, it so hurts!”

My mother rushed in from the kitchen, sweeping me straight into her protective arms.

When she looked up at Dad and Derek, there was no joy in her

Only disgust.

eyes.

Dad was crying with relief. “Fiona… Fiona, I finally found you.”

But all his joy curdled into flustered panic the second he met her icy gaze. “Fiona, why are you looking at me like that?”

Mom smelled like flowers. She pulled me tight against her chest, shielding every fragile, wounded part of me from harm.

She didn’t scold me for being slow. She never did.

“For an adopted daughter, you let my baby become this? And you were going to send her to the asylum? Theodore, are you insane?”

“Your daughter told you a hundred times she turned into a doll, and you wouldn’t believe her. But every lie that adopted one told, you swallowed whole.

“How could I have missed that you’re utterly blind and oblivious to the truth all these years?”

Derek hung his head. “Mom, you can’t blame Dad for all of it. I messed up too.”

Mom turned on him. “I wasn’t done with you. I would’ve been better off birthing a mindless lump of meat than raising a son like you. Are you insane?”

“You have eyes, don’t you? You let them attack Claire. Before she turned into a doll, she was still a person. She could feel pain. Do you have any idea how much she suffered?”

Derek dropped his head lower.

Mom couldn’t bear to imagine how much I’d gone through,

But at least now, I was with her.

She’d protect her daughter from now on.

“This is it. Our paths diverge forever, and there’s no turning back.”

The Moon Mirror faded. Dad and Derek’s calls faded with it.

They tried to redo the blood ritual once more, desperate to pull me back, but Lucas stopped them.

“One chance. That’s all you get. The one taken by the Moon-Wish Doll has entered the sanctuary

the Moon Goddess keeps for those who wished.”

“Once certain things slip away, they’re gone for good-there’s no taking them back.”

He said that and walked out.
