While I Was Losing Our Baby, He Was Celebrating Her Dog’s Puppies Chapter 07

“Then I’ll see you both in court.”

Ethan stood there, unable to process what the lawyer had just said.

What did he mean, Erin had already left?

The guests began filing out.

Everyone who passed Ethan and Blair looked at them with open disgust.

“Some surgical genius. He didn’t even know his own wife had miscarried. His wife was losing their baby and her parents were fighting for their lives in the hospital while he was out with another woman. Does someone like that deserve to operate on patients?”

“And that blonde woman is online every day pretending to be some self-made businesswoman while looking down on housewives.”

“Her apartment, her shop, even her daily expenses were paid for by a married man. She built her whole independent-woman image by living off someone else’s husband. Disgusting.”

Blair remained on the floor with her head down, unable to look at anyone.

Daniel sighed and patted Ethan on the shoulder.

“The scandal is already affecting the hospital. People are filing complaints against you. The hospital director just messaged me. You’re suspended from clinical duties pending an internal investigation. You made this mess, Ethan. Now deal with the consequences.”

Ethan barely seemed to hear him.

He ran out of the hotel and sped all the way home, repeating the same thing to himself.

“No. Erin wouldn’t really leave. She should be home from work by now. She has to be there…”

The moment he opened the front door, he froze.

The house was still exactly as messy as it had been that day.

For five years of marriage, Erin had taken care of every household chore so Ethan could come home to a clean, comfortable home after his ten-plus-hour shifts.

She cleaned every room, made dinner, and handled every small detail of their life before he ever had to think about it.

At first, he had appreciated her and helped.

Then he began to think it was simply her job.

Eventually, he stopped doing anything at all and even started complaining that their life together was boring.

For the first time, he came home to find the mess exactly as he had left it.

Ethan called the newsroom and learned only that Erin had resigned and already left for her new assignment.

When he asked where she had gone, the staff had clearly been told by Erin not to reveal anything.

A copy of their marriage certificate and her wedding ring lay on the table.

Only then did Ethan understand that she would never return to the home they had shared.

His parents called one after another, furious that he had destroyed his marriage and lost the daughter-in-law they adored.

They even told him they wanted nothing more to do with him.

Ethan stood there without moving.

Night fell, and lights came on one by one in the surrounding apartments as everyone else returned home.

His home alone stayed dark and empty.

The woman who had waited for him every night and made sure dinner was ready would never come back.

Ethan slowly sank to his knees, covered his face, and cried.

A few days later, he was served with the divorce petition and summons.

During the division of marital assets, the court found that Ethan had spent substantial marital funds on Blair’s apartment and business.

As a result, he lost most of the assets in dispute.

The hospital’s internal investigation also ended quickly.

Because of his serious professional misconduct and the damage the scandal had done to the hospital, he was dismissed from his position.

Blair was also ordered to return a large amount of money that had been paid with marital funds.

Her shop could no longer stay open.

Even when she managed to scrape together enough for the rent, the truth had already spread through Seattle’s social circles.

Everyone knew she had been involved with a married man and had used his money to maintain her image as a successful entrepreneur.

Customers who had bought memberships or prepaid service packages came in demanding refunds.

The occasional new customer would walk in, read the reports online, and turn right back around.

Blair tried to contact Ethan and begged him to help her again.

He never answered her calls and refused to see her.

In the end, she had no choice but to sell the shop for far less than it was worth.

When she applied for jobs, employers found the public scandal and rejected her.

“Sorry, but we don’t want our company dragged into this kind of negative publicity.”

Eventually, she was reduced to clearing out the shop’s remaining pet supplies and equipment at weekend flea markets.

Then one day, she disappeared, and no one saw her again.
