His Younger Self’s AI Loved Me More Than He Did Chapter 06

Still the same recording. Ethan yanked at his tie in frustration. Looks like she’s throwing a bigger fit this time.

All he could do was open her chat and send a voice message. “Zara, come on, don’t do this. I just got back. I’m exhausted.”

“How about you just tell me where you are and I’ll come get you, okay?”

The message sent. Ethan breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she hasn’t blocked me, she’s still waiting for me to make it right.

He sat down on the couch. His eyes fell on the AI companion with Zara’s face sitting beside him. An inexplicable dread crept up on him, so he called Maya instead.

“Ethan?” Maya’s voice on the other end was weak from childbirth. “What’s wrong? I thought you went back to rest.”

“Maya, when you went to get Zara’s blood yesterday—how was she afterward?” Ethan felt a knot of panic, but he tried to keep his voice even.

Maya paused, then answered breezily, “How do you think? She threw a bit of a fit, but it wasn’t a big deal.” Then her voice turned sweet and pouty. “Why are you only worried about her and not me, the one who just gave birth to your son? My C-section incision is killing me.”

“What about AI?” Ethan glanced at the pile of shattered parts on the floor. “How did the robot get wrecked this badly?”

There was another long pause on the line. “Oh, that thing glitched out and got aggressive. The bodyguards were worried it’d hurt someone, so they…”

“Ethan, it’s just a robot. Just buy her a new one later.”

“Yeah,” Ethan said flatly and hung up. But he had a nagging feeling that something was off.

In the middle of the night, his assistant called. “Mr. Davis, we’ve tracked down your wife. She took a 3 p.m. flight overseas today. But we can’t trace the exact destination yet.”

Ethan let out a cold laugh. “Overseas? She’s getting more and more dramatic. She’s even pulling this runaway act now.”

He didn’t think it was a big deal and muttered to himself, “Let her go. After a few days of kicking up a fuss out there, she’ll come crawling back on her own.”

The assistant’s voice on the other end was shaky. “Mr. Davis… I don’t think she is just running away. I also found out she’s closed all her domestic bank accounts.”

A ringing noise exploded in Ethan’s ears. “What did you say?”

“Sir, Mrs. Davis has completely cut her domestic ties. She isn’t planning to come back.”

A cold chill spread uncontrollably through Ethan’s body. He turned and looked at the identical AI companion on the couch. “Welcome home, Ethan Davis.”

The mechanical female voice rang out again. This time, Ethan finally understood what those words meant. She didn’t want him anymore.

But Ethan found it absurd. Zara didn’t want him? They’d fallen in love at eighteen and married at twenty-four.

For ten whole years, she was used to leaning on him to survive. She didn’t have a wide social circle. Her whole life revolved around him. How could a woman like that just leave, and so decisively?

“Impossible.” Ethan hung up. His voice sounded dry and hollow in the empty living room. Just then, the Zara AI companion suddenly turned its neck.

“Ethan Davis, I have something I’ve left for you.”

Ethan looked at her, confused.

“It’s in the bottom drawer of the study.”

After that, the AI companion went completely dead again.
