“Idiot!” Olivia’s eyes went red. “It’s a business merger. Corporate. There’s nothing romantic between us.”

I blinked.

“Cole Industries and Bennett Group are both at their peak. Nathan and I know each other. It’s the perfect match.”

Looking at Olivia, I smiled. My love and my best friend—they’d both done so well for themselves.

“Why are you laughing?!”

“You really don’t like him?”

“Please. If I had any feelings for him, I’d have made a move the second you left. Why would I wait until now?”

“That’s not the point.” I smiled at her.

“Why not?”

“What if I don’t make it?”

Olivia froze.

“Olivia, that’s a real possibility.”

She gritted her teeth. I patted her hand gently. “If I don’t make it, and he finds out the truth—what happens to your merger?”

“It could ruin everything. It’s better if he keeps believing what he believes. At least he won’t suffer that way.”

Olivia was silent for a long time. Finally, she choked out, “Fine. I promise.”

I smiled. I turned to walk away with Olivia, and found a familiar figure standing at the end of the hall, eyes red, staring at us.

“Nathan?” Olivia gasped.
