Future Him Warned Him About My Unhinged Side Chapter 07

I froze for a few seconds before immediately throwing off my blanket to leave.

But Ethan violently grabbed my arm, trying to yank me straight into his chest. I struggled with everything I had, only managing to wrench myself out of his grasp after a desperate tussle.

“Ethan Vance! We are already divorced. What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”

He reached into his jacket, pulled out our signed divorce agreement from god knows where, and violently ripped it into shreds right in front of my face for the second time.

“We haven’t finalized the papers with the court yet, so it doesn’t count,” he said, his jaw tight.

I knit my brows, my expression dripping with unadulterated aversion. “Tearing it up won’t change a thing, Ethan. Two years of legal separation is enough for a court to grant an automatic dissolution anyway. What exactly is it that you want?”

He took a sharp step forward, reaching out to grab me again, but I recoiled instantly, backing away with fierce speed.

His hand hung suspended in the empty air for a long, agonizing beat before finally dropping heavily to his side.

“I came here because I need to know… was that phone call really your doing?”

A soft, cynical laugh escaped my lips. “Whether I made that call or not—does it genuinely still matter to you?”

“Yes!” The frantic anxiety and chaotic frustration in his eyes spilled over completely. “I absolutely have to know!”

I gave a slow shake of my head. “No, it wasn’t me. But you can rest easy, Ethan—I’m not going to burn Sienna alive.”

“Then why?”

I stared at him, utterly bewildered by his audacity. “Why what? Did you actually want me to burn her alive?”

He lowered his eyelids sharply, masking a turbulent flicker in his eyes that he desperately didn’t want me to perceive. “I’m asking… why did you look me in the eye and lie about it?”

I let the silence stretch for a moment. “Because… I wanted to let you two be together.”

Ethan went entirely rigid, as if he’d been struck by lightning.

This was the exact outcome he had begged for, over and over again. Yet hearing the reality drop from my lips in such a casual tone sent a sharp, stabbing wave of phantom pain straight through his chest.

“I’ve given you the answer you came for. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking my leave.”

“Wait!” He suddenly called out, stopping me in my tracks yet again.

“Chloe,” he choked out, his voice hoarse, vibrating with a faint, desperate tremble. “Do you truly… not hold a single shred of nostalgia for what we had? Do you genuinely not care about our entire history anymore?”

I looked at him, my gaze entirely flat and devoid of emotion, exactly how one would look at a complete stranger on the street.

“Ethan Vance, have you completely lost your mind? The person who didn’t care about our history was you. The one who single-handedly dismantled every single piece of our decade together was also you.”

“You are the exact man who laid out a divorce agreement exactly eighteen times, begging me over and over to step aside for her sake. And now you have the nerve to stand on this beach and demand to know why I’m not clinging to the past? Why I don’t care?”

The words hit him like a physical blow, leaving him entirely speechless, the color draining from his face until he looked like a sheet of paper.

“Chloe… what if we don’t go through with the divorce? What if we just call it off, please? We can wipe the slate clean and start over! Don’t you remember how deeply in love we used to be?”

“The second I get back, I’ll break things off with Sienna completely. I’ll never see her face again. I will dedicate every single second of my days to making it up to you…”

“Cut the crap!” I snapped, ruthlessly slicing through his pathetic monologue.

His tone had deteriorated into absolute, desperate begging, his eyes swimming with a mixture of profound remorse and sniveling humility.
If this had been the old Chloe, my heart might have softened. I might have wavered.

But that version of me was buried deep in the mud back home. My heart was dead and cold.

“Go back to your little sanctuary with Sienna,” I said, my voice turning to ice as I spun on my heel to walk away. “Stop being such a pathetic, hypocritical bastard.”

“Chloe Reynolds!”

Losing his mind entirely, he lunged forward and locked his fingers around my wrist, squeezing with a violent, white-knuckled pressure that felt like it would shatter my bones. “Did you plan this all along?! Is that why you were so eager to run away from me?! Do you have someone else out here already?!”

Staring at his sudden, unhinged explosion, a wave of profound nausea rolled through my stomach.

Even at this absolute rock bottom, it hadn’t crossed his mind to reflect on the systematic psychological warfare he had inflicted upon me for years. Instead, his immediate instinct was to hurl disgusting, toxic accusations at my character.

I violently yanked my hand out of his grip, taking several sharp steps back, and glared at him with dead, frozen eyes.

“Ethan Vance, you are utterly beyond saving.”

“Whether there is someone else in my life or not is absolutely none of your goddamn business.”

“You and I are dead and buried. Do not ever cross my path or disrupt my existence again.”

With that final sentence, I didn’t give him another syllable or another glance, walking away with brisk, unbroken strides. He tried to chase after me, but my security detail, who had just sprinted onto the beach, slammed their bodies into his path, forcefully detaining him.

“Chloe! Chloe Reynolds! I’m not finished talking to you!” His frantic screams drifted over the roar of the surf.

I gave a slow, weary shake of my head. Whatever words were left in his mouth, I had zero desire to ever process them again.

If my bodyguards hadn’t been back at the SUV gathering my belongings when he arrived, he wouldn’t even have gotten the chance to spit those toxic delusions at me in the first place.
