He Promised Me Photos, She Got Them Instead Chapter 09

I had no idea what I had said to set Dylan off.

His face flushed bright red as he shot to his feet.

“At least you know your place!”

With that, he stormed out and slammed the door behind him, leaving the suitcase full of gifts behind.

I looked at the empty space inside the suitcase and thought for a moment.

Then I packed every gift Dylan had given me over the years into it, including the rabbit charm I had used as a

security blanket and carried everywhere I went.

The suitcase was packed so tightly that I could barely close it.

I asked my mother to wait until Dylan called the next day before taking it over to his house. Then I grabbed the luggage I had already packed and headed for the airport.

I boarded my flight to Texas.

Once again, I arrived with barely any time to spare.

This time, however, no one was rushing me.

The only message waiting for me was from Nathan.

Nathan: [Don’t rush. Just be careful. If you miss this flight, there will always be another one. UT Austin isn’t going anywhere. Besides, Chloe isn’t even awake yet.]

A smile slowly spread across my face as I read it.

Before turning off my phone, I replied.

Me. [See you at UT Austin.]

The moment Dylan learned that Hannah planned to complete their five-peak hiking challenge, he remembered the promise they had made during freshman year.

He looked at the suitcase beside her feet and remembered the graduation get-together the night before, when their classmates had urged him to confess to Madison and Hannah had seemed completely unmoved.

Panic seized him

“I’ll go hiking with you Wait for me.”

After saying that, he rushed home to repack his luggage.

He called Madison and told her to go to Miami by herself

Whether she would be upset never even crossed his mind

Dylan had always known that Madison liked him

He had kept allowing Madison to stay close, not because he returned her feelings, but because he never felt

that Hannah liked him back

Just as the doctor who had treated Hannah as a child had said, she really did develop more slowly than

other children

By the time Dylan started getting jealous of any boy who came near her, Hannah was still much the same as she had been as a child. She did everything slowly and wore the same sweet smile

Even when another girl asked Hannah to deliver Dylan a love letter, she would dutifully take it to him at her

usual unhurried pace

The sight of that pink letter had nearly driven him crazy

He hated how slow Hannah was Couldn’t she have been quick just once and torn the letter up instead of handing it to him?

He hated that she was just as slow to catch on when it came to romance

While he stood there furious, tearing the letter to pieces, Hannah merely watched him and smiled.

That was why he had agreed to help Madison on the first day of freshman year

If Hannah was slow to catch on when it came to romance, then he would try making her jealous.
