He Turned Our Wedding Into a Bet So I Married Another Man Chapter 07

Chase was shaking with rage. He slammed his fist against the front seat.

The driver jumped and snapped, “You going or not? Don’t waste my time!”

Lena grabbed his tie, forced him to meet her eyes, and hissed.

“Get a grip!”

“A wedding isn’t easy-venue, invites, family, friends. None of it happens overnight.”

“Aside from you, has Quinn ever liked anyone else? What if she’s just trying to force your hand?”

Her words hit him like ice water. He stopped, chest still heaving, his eyes unfocused for a moment, then

slowly clearing.

Yeah. That had to be it.

Quinn wouldn’t suddenly marry Grant. Just two nights ago, she was nestled in his arms, thrilled about the

wedding.

People don’t change that fast.

The thought took root, steadying him.

Yes. That’s it. She just wants to marry him so badly, she’s using this to pressure him.

The driver snapped again.

“Well? You coming or not?!”

Lena pulled a hundred-dollar bill from her purse and tossed it on the passenger seat. “Just a moment.”

She dialed a number, right in front of Chase.

“Grant?” Her voice was steady, convincingly calm. “Got it. I figured as much.”

She hung up, flashed the screen. The call log read [Grant Sterling].

Her tone carried a note of reproach.

“You lose your head the second you’re upset. I checked with Grant.”

“Quinn’s post was meant for you. A bluff to make you come back. Don’t you see?”

Chase let out a long breath. He opened the door and stepped out, letting the cool night air steady him. He

told himself he felt better.

It all added up.

Seven years. He’d never seen Quinn cross any line with Grant.

How could she just marry him overnight?

He turned to see Kyle, Mac, and the others standing a few feet away, their faces etched with worry.

Embarrassment crept in as he replayed his outburst in his head. Regret followed close behind.

He forced a smile and waved.

“Sorry, guys, didn’t mean to worry you over nothing.”

His voice was calm again, with a self-deprecating laugh.

“I’m just exhausted. Not thinking straight.”

“Let’s go back.”

They all exhaled, patting him on the back.

Back in his room, Chase splashed water on his face and sat on the edge of the bed, still restless.

He tried Quinn’s number again-voicemail. Then he checked his texts, social media, everything. Blocked.

Everywhere.

He stared at the “not delivered” message on his screen, and it only confirmed what he already believed.

He remembered senior year, when Quinn had ignored him for three days after he forgot their anniversary. Wouldn’t answer his calls.

Later he showed up outside her dorm with her favorite cake.

She leaned out the window, eyes red, said “no” but still came down to get it.

This was the same thing, she was just waiting for him to come chase her.
