The Intern Sat Beside Him, So I Took Everything in the Divorce Chapter 06

“Scarlett, sit down.” Harold gestured to the sofa across from him.

“I’ll stand. I’m here to end the engagement and walk away from Trevor. That’s it.”

Mrs. Fulton pressed a handkerchief to her eyes and jumped in.
“Scarlett, three years—you two have been together three years. Can we please just talk? Every marriage has its ups and downs …”

“Mrs. Fulton, we’re not married yet.”

“That’s exactly my point.” She stood and reached for my hand. “People make mistakes when they’re young. Trevor was wrong—I’m not denying that—but please, give him a chance to turn things around …”

I looked at her, my face completely still.

“I gave him chances. More than once.”

Harold cleared his throat. “Scarlett, I know Trevor’s let you down. But our families are tied together in so many ways. Calling it off hurts both the Hayes and the Fulton families.”

His tone softened. “You’re smart. Look at the bigger picture. Don’t let one foolish girl upend everything.”

“Mr. Fulton.” I placed my briefcase on the coffee table. “Everything I’ve done for the Fultons over the past three years is documented here. Take a look and decide for yourself how much this relationship actually meant to me.”

He glanced down, and his expression shifted.

“If this is your ‘bigger picture’—well, I built it, and I can take it apart.”

The room went still.

Then hurried footsteps echoed from the entrance.

Trevor burst in, with Mirabel right behind him.

“Scarlett, you’re breaking up with me?” His voice was ice-cold. “Who do you think you are? You don’t just walk away from our engagement like that.”

“I’m Scarlett Hayes. And I said it’s over, so it’s over.”

“You—!”

Mirabel tugged Trevor’s arm. “Trevor, don’t get upset. She might just be acting on impulse …”

I shot her a glance, and she actually smiled at me.

“Ms. Hayes, I really never meant to come between you two. You’ve got it all wrong. Trevor and I are just friends …”

“Who said you could talk?”

That wasn’t me—it was Mrs. Fulton. She slammed her hand on the table, and Trevor immediately stepped in front of Mirabel.

“Mom, Scarlett’s the one out of line! Blacklisting a recent grad, hounding her nonstop—what kind of normal person does that?”

“So you brought her here to show me how much you defend her?” I asked flatly.

“I brought her so you could apologize to her face.”

The room went dead silent.

Harold’s cane cracked against the floor. “You disgrace! Get on your knees!”

“Apologize?” I laughed.

I held up the engagement contract and, in front of everyone, tore it page by page into shreds.

“Trevor, don’t let her get to you—this bitch thinks she’s so special …”

Before Mirabel could finish, my security moved.

“What are you doing—?!”

Two guards stepped forward and pinned her arms.

I didn’t wait. I raised my hand and slapped her across the face.

Crack. Sharp and loud.

Blood welled at the corner of her mouth.

Trevor rushed at me. “Scarlett!”

I spun around, same force, same angle, and slapped him too.

“That’s for you.”

He clutched his cheek, utterly stunned.

I shook out my hand and said slowly, “Trevor, as of now, you’re not my fiancé anymore.”

“And you’re nothing.”
