Before dawn, a frantic phone call jolted Alaric awake.

His subordinate’s voice was laced with

panic.

“Boss, Elodie’s gone.”

“We’ve checked every hospital in Las Vegas. There’s no record of her.”

“But… you should see her previous medical records.”

“It looks like she knew about the divorce

for a while. She even went to the county

clerk’s office.”

Chloe woke up, choking on the smell of

smoke.

She walked into the living room to find

the floor littered with cigarette butts.

“Did something happen at the casino?” she asked softly.

Alaric snapped back to reality. For once, he didn’t put out the cigarette.

“It’s nothing. Just a problem at work. It’s being handled.”

He didn’t even realize his own eyes were

bloodshot.

His subordinate had told him that Elodie had terminated a pregnancy at a private

clinic.

On the very day he had brought Chloe to Olympus for the first time.

While he was holding another woman’s hand, walking into the empire he and Elodie had built together, introducing a

new mistress to the world…

She had been lying alone on an operating table, getting rid of their child.

A vise gripped his chest.

She had even made that decision on her

own.

As the sky began to lighten, the early

morning sun fell across Chloe’s face.

She looked clean, serene—the complete opposite of Elodie.

It was fine.

They were divorced anyway.

Elodie had left on her own accord. At least

it saved him the trouble.

“It’s nothing,” he said, finally stubbing out his cigarette. “I’m going to take a shower.”

The moment he stepped into the bathroom, he called his subordinate.

“The East District crew. Don’t leave a single one alive. Make it clean.”

“When you’re done, dump them in Lake

Mead.”
