Rebirth in Canaan, No Looking Back Chapter 09

Alaric grunted in acknowledgment.

“Send it over and have her sign.”

In his mind, this was more than enough.

Elodie had been with him for eight years. She should know when to back off.

But a full day passed with no response.

His calls and messages to Elodie went

unanswered.

He called the housekeeper at the villa.

“Where is she? Is she back yet?”

“No, sir. She hasn’t returned.”

A flicker of irritation sparked in Alaric, mingled with an emotion he couldn’t

name.

Where else could she go? She had no one

but him.

His subordinate spoke up. “Boss, could she still be in the hospital? She was hurt pretty bad.”

Only then did Alaric remember that just two days ago, he had personally driven a dagger through Elodie’s hand.

He suppressed the faint unease and said to his subordinate:

“Find out which hospitakshe’s in. Take the documents there and get her to sign.”

The subordinate was about to leave when

Alaric called him back.

“After you find her, post two men to watch her.”

“She has a temper. She might try something with Chloe.”

“If she makes a move, get her brother.”

“If you have to, let Leo get hurt a little. She’ll get the message.”

Late that night, Alaric returned to the penthouse apartment above the casino.

This was the home he and Elodie had

shared.

Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, the lights of the Las Vegas Strip glittered endlessly.

Elodie used to stand by that window,

point to the lights below, and say that half of them were theirs.

He yanked off his tie, tossing it aside, and then heard a faint noise from the

bedroom.
