I Got a Second Chance, So I Stopped Saving My Brother Chapter 07

“Logan.”

I walked over with my phone raised.

“I recorded everything you just said.”

Logan turned, scowling when he saw me.

“Willa Bennett, what business is this of yours?”

I woke the screen.

“You mocked a disabled student, deliberately provoked him, and put your hands on him in front of witnesses. Want to find out whether a suspension and a police report are enough to get your college acceptance rescinded?”

The students who had gathered to watch fell silent.

Logan’s expression changed.

His family was not well-off, and trouble like this was the last thing he could afford.

Maya panicked too and tugged at his sleeve.

“Just let it go.”

Logan clenched his jaw.

“I’m sorry.”

I stared at him.

“Who are you apologizing to?”

He reluctantly turned toward Mason.

“Sorry. Happy now?”

I put away my phone and wheeled Mason out of the building.

He did not say a word the entire way.

Only after we reached the car did he ask hoarsely, “Where did Paige go back there?”

I sighed softly.

“She said a teacher needed her.”

In fact, Paige was standing not far away.

She had seen Logan humiliating Mason, and she had seen Maya beside him.

Yet Paige had not come over.

She was afraid Mason would embarrass her.

She was afraid people would see her as the girl with a paralyzed brother.

After we returned home, Mason locked himself in his room.

My mother went in with his dinner, only to be driven back out when he hurled the bowl into the hallway.

It shattered on the floor, spilling soup everywhere.

“Get out!” he shouted from inside. “All of you! Leave me alone!”

Paige stood outside the door and cried, “Mason, I’m sorry. I really was called away.”

The room suddenly went silent.

A few seconds later, a pillow flew through the doorway and struck her in the face.

Mason’s voice was low and menacing.

“Paige, are you embarrassed to be seen with me now?”

Paige shook her head desperately.

“No.”

“Yes, you are.”

A broken laugh escaped him, uglier than a sob.

“I lost the use of my legs saving you, and you hid nearby while everyone humiliated me.”

When my mother heard that, her expression turned completely cold.

The way she looked at Paige no longer held any of her former affection.

Paige sobbed and begged them to let her explain.

No one listened.

I stood by the stairs and watched the scene unfold.

In my last life, they had refused to listen to my explanations too.

Now it was Paige’s turn.
