Stella peeked out from behind the rocks and stuck her tongue out at him.

“Uncle Alistair is mean! Marmalade says he doesn’t want a bath!”

Serena stepped out with a cup of tea, watching the chaos spill across the lawn, and she was smiling, really smiling.

In five years, Alistair and Serena had tripled the company’s market value. The family stood at the top of North Crest, unchallenged.

The shadow of that delivery room had finally fallen behind them.

I sprawled across a lounge chair in the sunroom, eyes half-shut, soaking in the warmth.

I thought about everything that had happened. The fights. The fear. The screaming. The healing. And I felt something close to peace.
