While Watching Drama, the Heroine Warned Me About My Best Friend Chapter 04

Celia threw herself into his arms, sobbing breathlessly. “Frank, I’m sorry… our baby is gone.”

She sniffled and, with bloodshot eyes, pointed at me. “It’s all Vera’s fault! She pushed me on purpose on the train. I lost my balance and fell, and that’s how I lost the baby…”

Erving clenched his fists, veins bulging on his forehead. “Vera, this time you’ve gone too far! I thought you were just joking when you said you were jealous of Celia and wanted to make her miscarry. I never imagined you’d actually do it!”

At those words, the nurses turned to me with fury. “So it was premeditated! Such disregard for life—isn’t that attempted murder? To harm a long-time friend—she’s absolutely inhuman!”

Celia slowly lifted her head and looked at Frank with a pleading expression. “Honey, maybe Vera had her own unavoidable reasons for what she did. Can we let her off this once, for the sake of our years of friendship?”

Her words sounded like mercy, but every sentence poured gasoline on the fire.

Erving sighed and added more fuel. “Celia, you’re too kind. You’re actually thinking of forgiving her? When she pushed you, did she ever consider your years of friendship?”

The nurses chimed in. “Exactly! People like her don’t deserve forgiveness. She’ll probably be reborn as something lower in her next life! Don’t go soft on her—she might try to harm you again!”

Amid the barrage of insults, Frank’s anger reached its peak. He shot me a venomous glare, as if he wanted to tear me apart on the spot.

“Bitch! Do you know how long I’ve been trying to have this baby?”

His face darkened. He straightened up and walked slowly toward me.

Frank had a rage disorder. Under these circumstances, strangling me would be easy.

I swallowed hard and backed away. “Don’t do anything rash—I have a witness!”

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Celia’s lips curl slightly, a smug look of triumph in her eyes.

“Honey, for our lost child, I support whatever decision you make!”

Erving watched with anticipation, clearly having no intention of stepping in to save me. “Frank, you absolutely can’t let Vera go—or she’ll hurt Celia again. People like that don’t deserve leniency. It’ll only cause endless trouble later!”

My nails dug deep into my palms.

The movie’s prophecy was coming true word for word. This whole act had been orchestrated by my best friend and my boyfriend, all to kill two birds with one stone: Frank would strangle me and go to prison, while they’d be free to be together.

I backed up slowly until my back hit the cold wall. “Listen to me—your wife’s miscarriage had nothing to do with me…”

But Frank had already lost all reason.

His eyes bloodshot, he stepped closer. “Bitch! You killed my kid—now go keep him company!”

I shouted desperately, “Don’t—I have a witness—”

Before I could finish, the old woman lunged forward with a swift step and slapped Frank so hard he spun around several times.

I stood there, mouth agape, frozen in shock.

Everyone in the room froze too.

Celia scrambled and pointed a trembling finger at me. “Vera, you killed my baby and now you’ve hired someone to beat up my husband?!”

Erving darkened his face and said in a disappointed tone, “Vera, we’re done. From now on, pretend I never knew you.”

I quickly grabbed the old woman’s arm. “Ma’am, please don’t be rash!” I only wanted her to be a witness. If Frank got any angrier, I was afraid he’d strangle her too.

But the old woman shook me off and slapped Frank twice more across the face.

Frank was so thoroughly beaten that all his aggression vanished. He looked up, pitifully confused. “Mom… what are you doing here?”
