The Screens Predict My Doom, I Rewrite The Script Chapter 01

The day I was brought back to the Colon family as the true heiress, the fake heiress blinked back tears and offered to return the engagement back to me.

I touched my belly, having just learned of the pregnancy, and gently declined. “No need. There’s already someone I love.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, glowing comments floated into my vision:

[Lmao, the villainess is rejecting it so easily now, but she’ll regret it the second she sees the ML.]

[The ML will still choose the FL anyway. The villainess is just going to use her pregnancy to stalk and cling to him.]

[The FL ends up slitting her wrists, and the villainess gets disowned by her family, hated by the ML, and dies in childbirth with her baby.]

I looked down, finding it completely absurd. Why would I ever chase after a stranger?

Just then, footsteps sounded behind me.

The fake heiress wiped her tears and rushed over. “Javier, this is my sister. She’s the one you were originally supposed to be engaged to.”

I turned around and met a pair of familiar eyes.

It was the man who had kept me for five years—and the father of the child in my womb.

Panic flashed through Javier Wells’s eyes the moment he saw me.

But it lasted only a fraction of a second.

He quickly masked his emotions, adopting a polite, detached demeanor. “Nice to meet you, Miss Colon.”

He then gently patted the fake heiress Reese Colon’s hand, his voice soft but firm. “Don’t talk nonsense, Reese. You’re the one I’m engaged to, and that’s not going to change.”

The floating comments erupted.

[Here it comes! The villainess is about to play victim, expose their affair, and force him to marry her!]

[She’s going to threaten the ML with her pregnancy right now to steal the engagement!]

I took a deep breath, averted my eyes, and spoke calmly, “Hello, Mr. Wells. Nice to meet you.”

The screen paused for a second.

[That’s it? Why isn’t she throwing a tantrum?]

[She’s faking it. Let’s see how long she can last.]

[I get it, she’s playing hard to get!]

Javier clearly hadn’t expected this reaction. He shot me a warning, searching look.

Mrs. Colon, my birth mother, suddenly turned to me. “You said you have someone you love just now. How far did things go between you two?”

Everyone’s eyes locked onto me again.

I glanced at Javier.

His face was an unreadable mask, but his clenched fists were trembling slightly.

I looked back at the family and curled my lips. “Far enough that he had to go home for an arranged marriage, so I got dumped.”

Dead silence filled the living room.

Mrs. Colon’s expression turned absolutely foul.

Mr. Colon, my birth father, coughed and awkwardly looked away.

Javier’s face darkened instantly.

Reese eagerly chimed in. “So you’re really giving up the engagement, Zuri?”

“I am.” My voice was sharp, leaving no room for doubt. “Since you two love each other, the engagement is yours.”

The comments flooded in again.

[Keep pretending! Go on, keep it up! She’s definitely going to cry to the ML in private later!]

Mr. and Mrs. Colon noticeably relaxed.

Mrs. Colon stood up. “Zuri, let me show you to your room. Reese is in poor health and shouldn’t sit for too long.”

My room was at the very end of the hallway.

When she pushed the door open, I was greeted by a cramped, cold space. It shared a bathroom with the kitchen, and the window faced north, letting in zero sunlight.

Mrs. Colon gave a dismissive shrug. “You’ll stay here for now. Reese has lived in her room for twenty years and is used to it, so we can’t really move her. You’re the older sister, so be understanding.”

Mr. Colon followed us, standing at the doorway to add his piece. “Reese has been fragile and sensitive since she was a child. Yield to her more in the future. We’re a family, and harmony matters most.”

Staring at the room, which was smaller than Reese’s bathroom, I nodded. “Okay.”

After they left, a knock sounded at the door.

Javier stood outside, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. “Keep your mouth shut, Zuri. The past five years were nothing more than a transaction out of my pity.”

“Reese is the one I’m marrying. You better learn your place.”

I rubbed my belly. The pregnancy test from yesterday was still in my pocket.

I had thought returning to a wealthy family would bridge the status gap between us.

I had thought I could finally stand by his side openly.

It turned out it was all just my delusion.

Suppressing the bitter ache in my chest, I looked up at him. “Javier, we are done.”

He froze.

I turned around and shut the door in his face without looking back.
