Nulan rushed up to the counter. His shirt collar was crooked, and sweat glistening on his forehead.

When he saw the deed in the tray, his lips parted, but for a moment, no words came out.

“Elena, stop this. Let’s go home and talk.”

I glanced at the counter.

“Continue.”

Nolan reached out and pressed his hand down on the contract.

Naomi stepped between him and the desk.

“Sir, please don’t interfere with the transaction.”

He stared at me.

“This is our future marital home. What gives you the right to sell it?”

The officer checked the system.

“The titled owner is Elena. The property has no active lien, and the documents are complete. The sale can

proceed.”

Nolan turned toward her.

“I contributed money too.”

The officer’s tone remained calm.

“Any contribution dispute can be handled separately. It does not prevent the titled owner from disposing of the property.”

Nolan’s hand froze on the desk.

Only then did he seem to remember that his name was not on the deed.

He looked at me.

“When did you release the lien?”

I said, “The day you went to dry-clean Sienna’s blanket.”

He said, “You set me up?”

I handed him the settlement spreadsheet.

“I transferred what you were owed.”

He flipped it open; every payment had a receipt. Down payment, mortgage, furniture, transfer dates, bank

statements.

Nolan looked up.

“You even prepared all this?”

“Every time you made me give way, I wrote it down.”

He raised his head.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

I looked at him.

“I did. You told me to be understanding.”

Sienna called again.

Nolan looked down at the screen.

This time, he did not answer.

I gave a small scoff. “Not picking up now?”

He turned the phone face down.

“Elena, I know I was wrong. Don’t sell the condo. Let’s start over.”

The buyer frowned.

“Ms. Hart, should we come back another day?”

I picked up the pen.

“No.”

Nolan blocked me.

“What about the wedding?”

I signed.

“Canceled.”

“What about the furniture?”

“What can be sold will be sold. What’s yours will stay.”

“What about us?”

I took the key fob off my key ring and placed it in his palm.

“Nolan, I already moved out of the master bedroom.”

He closed his fingers around the key fob.

“I’ll make Sienna leave. make her leave right now.”

I signed the second page.

“Whether she leaves or stays has nothing to do with me.”

The officer stamped the documents. The escrow deposit notification chimed. The couple signed, and the

move-in date was set for three days later.

Nolan grabbed my suitcase.

“You can’t do this.”

I shook his hand off.

“If you have a problem with it, take it to court.”

His eyes reddened.

“Elena, we were together for six years. You’re clearing it all with one condo?”

I slipped the contract into the folder.

“You cleared it with one blanket long before I did.”

When I walked out of the building, he chased after me.

“You sold our home. Where are you going?”

The Uber pulled up. I placed my suitcase in the trunk. Before I closed the car door, I looked at him.

“The one with nowhere to go now is you.”

He pounded on the window.

I opened Naomi’s message.

Naomi: [I’ll have everything cleared before possession.]

The car drove away.

His figure remained by the curb.

This time, the person with nowhere to go was not me.
