My Husband Locked Me Out of Our Home for Another Woman Chapter 03

Nolan had promised to go with me to the hotel for the wedding menu tasting.

I had booked the appointment two weeks in advance.

His parents’ dietary restrictions had been noted three separate times.

Right before we were about to leave, his phone rang, it was Sienna.

She said she was scared to go to her psychiatric follow-up appointment alone.

Nolan glanced at me.

“You go ahead. I’ll take her to the clinic and catch up with you as soon as I can.”

I picked up my car keys.

“Okay.”

He let out a breath of relief.

“Elena, I knew you’d understand.”

I did not respond to that.

The banquet manager brought out the wedding seating chart.

There was an extra name next to the head table.

Sienna Shaw.

The notes were painfully detailed.

Away from the speakers.

Away from direct lighting.

Near the lounge.

Easy for Mr. Whitmore to check on her.

I held the pen in my hand.

“Who changed this?”

The manager glanced at the computer.

“Mr. Whitmore called last night to confirm it.”

I set the pen down.

“The head table is for the bride, the groom, and their parents.”

The manager gave me a tight, apologetic smile.

“Mr. Whitmore said Ms. Shaw’s situation was special.”

Half an hour later, Nolan arrived.

Sienna followed behind him.

She had that cashmere throw blanket draped around her shoulders, and a medical folder to her chest.

“Elena, should I not have come?”

I looked at Nolan.

He stepped in front of her.

“She needs to get used to the venue ahead of time so nothing happens on the wedding day.”

I asked, “Who approved her getting used to my wedding?”

Sienna’s eyes welled with tears, and Nolan’s face immediately fell.

“Don’t take it out on her. She can’t handle harsh words right now.”

I opened the menu.

“Then she shouldn’t be here.”

The tasting began.

The first dish, a fish course, was brought out.

Sienna covered her mouth.

“It smells too fishy.”

Nolan immediately called the manager over.

“Change this one.”

When the soup arrived, she frowned.

“The flavor is too heavy.”

Nolan said, “Change that too.”

The manager looked at me.

I pushed the menu toward him.

“Do whatever Mr. Whitmore says.”

Then they tested the music.

It was the entrance track I had chosen.

Sienna lowered her head and clutched the blanket.

“The sound is making it hard for me to breathe.”

Nolan turned to the manager.

“Switch it to something soothing, a white-noise piano track.”

I looked at him.

“Are the guests coming to a wedding or a sleep clinic?”

He lowered his voice.

“Elena, the wedding is just a formality. Sienna can’t be overstimulated.”

I asked, “What about me?”

He paused.

“You’ve always been stronger than her.”

The words hung heavily in the air.

I closed the folder.

Sienna spoke softly.

“Maybe I shouldn’t attend. I don’t want you two fighting because of me.”

Nolan immediately took her wrist.

“No one asked you to leave.”

I saw his hand clearly.

Only then did he realize what he was doing and let go.

Sienna’s breathing grew shallow, and Nolan helped her to her feet.

“I’ll take her outside first. You handle the remaining balance.”

The manager handed me the bill.

I did not sign it.

“Put the wedding date on hold.”

The manager froze.

“Ms. Hart, the deposit may not be refundable.”

“Follow the contract.”

While Nolan was helping Sienna into the car, Naomi called me.

“Ms. Hart, if you’re serious about selling that condo, I have a cash buyer.”

I watched from the window as Nolan gently tucked Sienna into the passenger seat.

“I’m serious.”

Naomi asked, “What about the price?”

“Below market is fine. It’s negotiable.”

When I got home, I canceled the hotel reservation.

I also sent a termination request to the bridal boutique.

Nolan messaged me.

Nolan: [Sienna has calmed down. Don’t blow what happened today out of proportion.]

I replied with a single phrase: [Too late.]

He did not reply again.

I downloaded a purchase and sale agreement template.

The wedding could go on without me.

The future marital home could go on without him.
