Shattered Moonlight, Broken Luna Chapter 08

“Shut up!” Damien whipped around, eyes so vicious it looked like he might kill her. “If you had not sent that text, why would she have gone to Lucas?! You cornered her, killed her father, and ruined her life!”

“Ella, I should kill you. I am going to kill you!” His hand locked around her throat and kept tightening. Ella’s eyes rolled back as she clawed at his wrist, her face turning a dark, ugly purple.

Their old classmates panicked and rushed forward.

“Alpha, calm down!”

“Ella was wrong, but this is not worth a murder charge!”

“Let go, you are going to kill her!”

Amidst the chaos, I watched coldly.

However smug Ella was then, she was just as pathetic now.

However arrogant Damien was then, he was just as humble now.

I glanced at the clock on the wall. Two in the morning. My shift was over.

I stood up, brushed the dust from my skirt, and spoke over the mess of shouting bodies. “Alpha, since you still have family drama to deal with, I am going to clock out.”

“By the way, tonight’s room charge, the drinks, and that crystal glass you broke come to a total of one hundred and eighty-six thousand.”

“Card or cash?”

Damien finally let go of Ella. She collapsed onto the carpet and hacked for air.

He turned his head and stared at me like he could not quite believe what he had heard. “Chloe, after all this, you are still talking to me about money?” His eyes looked wounded.

“What else should I be talking to you about? Feelings? Damien, do you really think there is anything left between us to talk about?”

“There is! Of course there is!” He scrambled to his feet and staggered toward me, trying to pull me into his arms.

“I still love you, Chloe. I never forgot you, not once in seven years! I hated you because I loved you too much. We can start over. Please.”

“I have money now. I can give you the best life. I can make it up to you…”

“That hundred and eighty-six thousand is nothing. I can give you eighteen million! One hundred and eighty million! All of it is yours if you come back to me…”

I stepped back and slipped out of his reach.

“Do not touch me.” Disgust twisted my face. “Alpha, show some respect. Your money is not compensation to me. It is an insult.”

He froze where he stood, arms hanging in the air, looking like a lost pup. “Then tell me what to do, tell me what it takes for you to forgive me. I will do anything…”

“I want you to stay away from me.” I pronounced each word slowly. “Do not appear in front of me again. Ever.”

With that, I turned and walked away.

Unwilling to give up, Damien chased after me and grabbed my wrist.

“Chloe, don’t go! It is raining outside. Let me drive you home…”

“No need.” I shook his hand off and pulled a small folding umbrella from my bag. It was cheap and old, one of the ribs already bent, fabric frayed at the edges. Even so, I opened it with steady hands.

“Damien, look.” I nodded toward the drizzle outside the club entrance.

“The rain stopped a long time ago. Or maybe,” I added, “I just got used to walking in it.”

“The current me can afford my own umbrella and a cab. I don’t need your fake kindness.”

I stepped out of the private room and walked into the thin curtain of rain without looking back.
