Her hand holding the knife was trembling.

“Don’t come any closer,” she warned, voice shaking.

The first time she’d been attacked, her mother had blamed her for dressing too provocatively, telling her not to wear skirts anymore.

But that day, she’d been wearing her school uniform.

If Kieran hadn’t shown up in time, she wouldn’t have made it out.

Ever since, she’d always carried a silver dagger with her.

Now, fear clawed at her chest, suffocating. But the guys in front of her weren’t scared at all. They even dared to lunge forward, trying to wrest the blade from her hand.

In the struggle, the tip of the dagger plunged into her own chest.

The guy leading them froze, suddenly panicked. Maybe afraid things had gone too far, he finally let her go.

She collapsed on the ground, blood soaking through her clothes.

Her vision dimmed, edges going black, but she could still hear them whispering as they made a call.

“Alpha, it’s bad. She stabbed herself with a silver dagger.”

Kieran’s voice came from the other end of the line.

“Is she dead?”

Then came Merrick’s furious roar, “Kieran, what the hell did you do? You really sent people after her?”

Kieran sneered. “I just wanted to scare her. If she wants to die, that’s on her.”

“If she’s still alive, dump her at the Pack hospital. And make sure she doesn’t remember a thing about tonight.”

I felt her heart squeeze tight, the pain so sharp she could hardly breathe.

So this was it. He really wanted to destroy her.

Her mind flashed back to something she’d once overheard him say:

“I know my mom’s death wasn’t her fault. I just don’t want her to have a good life.”

“My dad might feel guilty toward that mother-daughter pair. But I sure don’t.”

A tear slipped silently from the corner of her eye. And then everything went dark.

When she opened her eyes again, she was lying in a hospital bed in the Pack infirmary.

Merrick was sitting beside her. As soon as she stirred, he leaned in, anxious.

“Baby, thank God you’re awake. I was worried sick.”

When she didn’t respond, his eyes darted around nervously. “I saw the photos. That was on me. I went out, got drunk, someone grabbed the wrong phone and sent them. I’ve already had them all deleted. You don’t have to overthink it. It won’t change how I feel.”

I stared at him in silence, her heart numb and hollow.

He was the one who started all this, yet now he stood there acting like some kind of savior.

Back then, if he hadn’t pursued her so relentlessly when she was at her lowest, none of this would’ve happened.

Before she could even respond, his phone rang.

Whatever the caller said made him soften his voice instantly, and without a glance back, he stepped out with his phone in hand.

He’d barely left when Kieran walked in.

He looked her up and down with a sneer, clearly pleased to see her like this.

“You wanna know why Merrick ran out so fast?”

I didn’t answer.

“Lope’s back,” Kieran said flatly. “She couldn’t sleep in Wolfspire Pack, so he went to tuck her in. Don’t kid yourself thinking you can marry into the Pack like your mom did. The Luna of Wolfspire Pack will always be Lope.”

My body trembled at his words.

Lope, the Beta’s daughter from Dark Forest Pack. She’d grown up with them, and had always been Merrick’s first love.

Kieran’s mother used to say Lope looked like her. Maybe that’s why Kieran always gave her whatever she wanted.

I had tried so hard to be a good little sister to Kieran. She thought if she just did enough, tried hard enough, he’d treat her like family.

But no matter what she did, one word from Lope erased it all.

She closed her eyes and gave a bitter, mocking smile.

Finally, she understood. Neither Merrick nor Kieran had ever truly cared about her.

Once, she might’ve apologized, tried to make peace, begged for his approval. But not anymore.

She turned her head, her voice cold. “Got it. I won’t be bothering you again.”

Kieran paused, surprised. “Merrick isn’t even here. Who are you putting on this pitiful act for?”

Then he stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

Her injuries were severe. She stayed in the hospital for a full week.

When her mother heard, she simply wired over the hospital fees and followed the Alpha on another business trip. Not once did she come see her.

Even on the day she was discharged, she left alone.

They were all out. It was the perfect time to pack.

Not that there was much she wanted to take with her. Almost everything she once treasured had been gifts from Kieran.

None of it mattered anymore.
