He Skipped Our Wedding License 10 Times but Married My Bestie Chapter 11

I curled my lips and smiled. “No.”

“Why? Do you really hate me that much?”

I didn’t answer. Instead, I tilted my head and asked, Derrick, do you have any idea what going to

college means to a girl from a small town?”

His mouth opened, his gaze entirely blank.

Seeing his clueless expression, the irony in my heart grew heavier.

“It means changing your destiny. It is the only ladder out of hell.” My voice was quiet. “When I found

out about you and Saylor, I was just hurt.”

“I felt like a clown who had been played. But when I saw those messages, when I read you admitting to drugging me… that’s when I started hating you.”

I took a step forward, forcing him to look at me. “You have no idea how terrified and hopeless I was when my mother locked me away with that half-wit, chaining me up to force me to have his child. I fought so hard. My entire body was covered in wounds…”

Derrick’s breath hitched, his face turning as white as a sheet.

“I loathed myself back then,” I said, staring into his eyes, forcing out every single word. “I wanted to kill myself! Why did I fall asleep during the exam? I was just one step away from escaping that hell. It was you, Derrick. You destroyed everything with your own hands.”

“When you showed up with ten thousand dollars,” my voice cracked slightly, “I was so grateful. I thought you were my savior. Now that the truth is out, you absolutely disgust me. I wish I had never

met you or Saylor!”

“No… that’s not how it was…” Derrick stumbled back a step, shaking his head with a shattered look in his eyes. “I didn’t… I didn’t think things through back then… I just…”

No excuse could ever change the fact that he had ruined my life.

Right then, Mr. Whitlock stepped out of the car. He naturally took his place by my side, his posture

gentle but fiercely protective.

Derrick shifted his gaze to Mr. Whitlock and suddenly let out a low, bitter laugh.

He lunged forward and grabbed my wrist. “Is it because of him? Is that why you won’t forgive me? How much is he paying to keep you? I’ll pay double! Ten times!”

Smack!

A sharp crack echoed through the air.

I threw his hand off with everything I had, my palm stinging from the impact.

Watching the red mark rapidly form on his cheek, my chest heaved with rage. “Derrick, you disgust

Your love makes me want to throw up.”
Mr. Whitlock stepped in immediately, placing himself between Derrick and me.

A polite smile remained on his face, but his eyes were ice-cold. “Sir, have some dignity. I’m not Nevaeh’s sugar daddy; I’m pursuing her. Even though she hasn’t accepted me yet.”

Then he turned to look at me, his gaze softening before he locked eyes with Derrick again, his tone dripping with quiet contempt, “You have no right to insult her with your money. Not everyone views

relationships as a transaction like you do.”

Those quiet words cut Derrick exactly where it hurt most.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” Derrick snapped, completely losing his mind. He threw a blind

punch straight at Mr. Whitlock.

Mr. Whitlock seemed to expect it, shifting his weight to dodge, but Derrick kept coming like a rabid

animal, tackling him into a chaotic brawl.

“Stop it!” I shouted.

But both men were already running on pure adrenaline, especially Derrick, who fought with

reckless disregard for his own safety.

As Derrick lunged forward again, Mr. Whitlock threw up an arm to block, his elbow catching Derrick

squarely in the abdomen.

Derrick groaned, doubling over in sudden pain.

I immediately rushed past him to check on Mr. Whitlock, checking his arms anxiously. “Are you alright? Did you get hurt?”

Mr. Whitlock shook his head slightly, his voice steady and reassuring. “I’m fine, don’t worry.”

The sight tore through Derrick.

Holding his stomach, he looked up to see me frantically protecting another man. His eyes went completely bloodshot.

Like a child whose favorite toy had been taken away, his face twisted in a mix of grievance, rage,

and disbelief. “Nevaeh… he hit me first… and you’re protecting him?”

Looking at his pathetic state and tear-filled eyes, my heart remained entirely cold.

“Yes, I’m protecting him,” I said, meeting his gaze dead-on. “Because unlike you, he has never hurt me. Stop acting like the victim, Derrick. You brought every bit of this on yourself.”

Derrick stood frozen, staring at the sight of me standing beside Mr. Whitlock.

The wild, arrogant spark that used to define him completely vanished, leaving nothing but absolute

despair.

He had lost. Completely and utterly.

Derrick didn’t say another word. The setting sun stretched his shadow long and thin across the

ground.

He’d truly lost me.

And I was never coming back.
