I asked with a sneer, “Why should I tolerate Wendy’s wrongdoings She’s not the only one who worked hard for more than a decade to prepare for the SAT.

“If I had stayed in the room and been arrested for cheating, which one of you would have taken responsibility for my ruined life? It’s easy for you to take the high road and tell me to let it go when is not your neck on the line.”

I stepped toward Wendy, forcing her to keep backing up. I kept my eyes locked on hers as I demanded an answer. “You’d better tell the truth right now, Wendy. Did you write those cheat sheets on my admission ticket?”

Wendy avoided my gaze out of guilt, still refusing to admit anything. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, so please stop pressuring me.”

Christian shot me a dissatisfied look. “Do you really have to be so confrontational, Yvonne?”

I merely nodded as I took out my phone. “I’ll stop being so confrontational and allow the police to handle this, then. I’m sure they’ll clear my name. It won’t take long for them to analyze the handwriting, so you don’t have to worry about it interfering with the rest of the SAT.

“If the investigation proves I was framed, the perpetrator will be disqualified and barred from completing the rest of the SAT, though.”

I was just about to call the police when someone suddenly dashed over, grabbed my phone, and hurled it away. “I’m really sorry, Yvonne, so please don’t call the police! I was just trying to help you with your SAT. I didn’t think anyone would find out about the

cheat sheet.

“I’m so sorry! I really meant well; I was just too dumb and my ‘help’ turned into a disaster.”

I kept my eyes fixed on Wendy. “You’re finally admitting that you’re the one who wrote the things on the admission ticket, huh?

”

Christian was momentarily stunned, though he continued to defend Wendy. He looked at me with a sudden kindness and

reached out.

“I’m sure Wendy didn’t do it on purpose, Yvonne. She likely just wanted to give you a hand. She couldn’t possibly do something so malicious since she’s so innocent and simple-minded. You shouldn’t hold it against her, Yvonne.”

I yanked my hand away from Christian and snarled, “How can you even say that with a straight face, Christian? You think she didn’t do it on purpose, huh? You ought to know that cheating is a massive violation! She wrote on my admission ticket and publicly framed me for cheating!

“What do you mean she’s helping me? Why didn’t she do it for you if she’s trying to be so helpful then? Why didn’t she frame you in front of everyone? Do you really take me for a fool, Christian?”

I turned toward the group of invigilators and asked, “You guys heard what she said, right? She already admitted to intentionally framing me and falsely accusing me of cheating on the SAT. Please call the police to handle this situation fairly.”

Upon hearing that, the invigilators nodded solemnly. “You can rest assured that we’ve already contacted the police and the education bureau regarding this matter-we will get to the bottom of this and clear your name.”

In that instant, everyone else started pointing at Wendy and gossiping amongst themselves.

“How could someone be so vicious? She’s basically trying to ruin someone else’s future by framing them for cheating on the SAT!”

“That woman is already 18 years old, yet she’s still going around acting like a toddler. That man, on the other hand, is supposedly the victim’s boyfriend, yet he turned on her without a second thought. There’s clearly something going on with that perpetrator and that man!”

In the midst of the crowd’s endless discussion, Wendy was taken into custody and led away by the police.

Christian glared at me, his eyes burning with resentment. “You must be happy now since Wendy has been arrested, Yvonne. Did

you really have to go so far as to ruin her? How can you be so vicious, Yvonne?”

I reached my breaking point and slapped Christian hard across the face. “I didn’t do anything to harm anyone. I’d also like to remind you that the police don’t just arrest anyone without any reason-unless you’re accusing them of not knowing how to do their job.”
