After Forcing Me to Speak, They Regretted Everything Chapter 05

BOOM!

The half-meter-thick blast door of the infirmary was ripped off its hinges-along with chunks of the

surrounding wall-by a monstrous force.

Debris flew everywhere. The thick stench of decay flooded the room along with gale-force wind.

Archie’s smile froze solid on his face. Emma, who had just been celebrating her miraculous

survival, was so terrified she rolled right off the hospital bed.

“Open fire! Open fire!”

Paul was the first to react. He raised his automatic rifle and fired wildly at the doorway.

But it was too late.

Several mutated zombies with spindly limbs and terrifying crawling speed surged through the hail

of bullets and instantly pinned the two lead soldiers of the strike team to the ground.

“AAAAHHH-”

The entire room transformed into a living hell in seconds.

I remained kneeling quietly in place.

The knife wound Archie had cut across my neck was still seeping blood. The sweet, metallic scent

of fresh blood should have been enough to drive any zombie into a frenzy.

One zombie with bulging, protruding eyes noticed me. It dropped to all fours and lunged at me

with a roar.

“Back.”

It retreated two hurried steps, as if dodging something unspeakably terrifying. It skirted around

me, pressed flat against the wall, and lunged at another soldier nearby.

I knelt right in the center of the slaughter.

Hundreds, thousands of zombies surged into the base like a raging tidal wave, yet they split apart uncannily just half a meter from where I knelt. They tore into everyone around me in a frenzy, but

not a single one dared to brush against even the corner of my clothes.

“This is impossible… how is this possible!”

Archie, who had been dragging Emma toward the escape tunnel, stared frozen at the scene, his

eyes filled with utter disbelief.

Paul emptied his magazine and scrambled on all fours toward the inner safe passage.

I paid them no attention.

I braced myself against the cold, sticky bed frame and dragged my broken body upright, swaying unsteadily. Broken ribs ground against torn flesh. Every breath brought blood foam to my lips.

I turned around. Dragging the right leg Paul had kicked broken, I limped step by step toward the

door.

The mass of zombies blocking the path ahead parted in unison to both sides, lowering their heads, clearing a blood-soaked road strewn with severed limbs and mangled corpses.

At the end of the corridor, a man covered in blood crawled toward me and grabbed desperately at

my shoes.

“Lydia… save me… I’ll kowtow to you!”

It was the base’s logistics chief.

Three days ago, he had dumped my food onto the ground, held my head down, and forced me to lick it clean-just to curry favor with Emma.

I lowered my head and looked at him coldly.

“ROAR!”

A massive, hulking Brute zombie leaped down from above. It crushed his spine with a single stomp, grabbed him, and stuffed him straight into its mouth, tearing him apart.

Blood splattered across my pant leg. I stepped over his remains without a flicker of expression and kept walking forward.

The entire base had been completely overrun. Flames, screams, and the sound of tearing flesh

filled the air everywhere.

Those survivors who had been celebrating my compliance moments ago, who had torn up my paper and pen days before, who had cursed and humiliated me without restraint-they were now writhing and screaming in despair under the zombies’ claws.

I walked across the square. Through the gates.

Hell on earth raged behind me, but I felt not a shred of attachment. I didn’t look back.

Finally, I walked through the base’s ruined steel gates. The night wind blew through my tattered,

blood-soaked clothes. The apocalypse’s mist shrouded the city ruins ahead in deathly stillness.

Just as I dragged my broken body forward, about to step into the ruins-

Dozens of dark-golden slit-pupiled eyes suddenly lit up atop a pile of wrecked cars ahead.

A three-meter-tall Abyssal Leader, its entire body covered in bone spurs, slowly straightened to its full height and blocked my path with deadly intent.
