Pick A Number, He Said, I Picked Divorce Chapter 03

Pick A Number, He Said, I Picked Divorce Chapter 03

I took a cab home.

I opened the door.

Silas and Fiona were packing suitcases together.

Silas heard me and stopped. He walked over, his face pale. “Serena, let me explain—”

Fiona cut him off. She smoothed her hair, smug.

“Serena, don’t misunderstand. I opened a blind box today and won a seven-day ‘Boyfriend Experience Card’ for Silas. Since it’s a boyfriend experience, I want the full thing. Living together makes it feel real.”

A boyfriend experience card.

So this was how far their blind-box game had gone. You could even draw someone else’s husband.

Silas shot Fiona a look. Then he turned to me. “Serena, that card was just for fun. I thought it was interesting, so I put it in the box. I didn’t expect anyone to draw it. Now that she did, it’s hard to back out. Don’t worry—it’s only seven days. Fiona stays in the guest room.”

I looked at him. Silent for a few seconds. Then I said: “Whatever you want.”

His expression flickered. He forced a smile. “Serena, I know you’re upset about the blind boxes.”

Ridiculous.

He still thought I was throwing a tantrum.

“Fine,” he said. “Next time, I’ll let you draw three times.”

I laughed. Actually laughed.

We hadn’t gotten here because Fiona was clever.

We’d gotten here because Silas had never understood—what was for fun, and what wasn’t.

What were rules. Where the line was.

“No thanks.”

I walked past them toward the bedroom.

My phone started buzzing. Message after message.

“Shameless homewrecker.”

“Stay away from Fiona. Stop hanging around her boyfriend.”

“Some random woman, and she thinks she can meddle in someone else’s relationship.”

“Fiona’s nice, but that doesn’t mean you can walk all over her.”

“Some people have no shame—they just have to insert themselves into other people’s relationships.”

I scrolled. I tapped into Fiona’s profile.

Her caption: “Got the seven-day boyfriend trial for Silas! @Serena, hope some people know their place and don’t interfere with true love~”

The photo showed Silas’s profile. Fiona smiled sweetly—like they were a real couple.

The comments were all against me.

I looked up at Fiona. I held up my phone. “Fiona. What is this?”

She bit her lip. “Serena, I think you’re misunderstanding. I’m just documenting the seven-day boyfriend experience for my social media.”

I laughed through the anger. “You think I’m misunderstanding? You tagged me, called me a homewrecker, and you’re telling me you didn’t mean anything by it?”

Fiona’s eyes welled up. She hid behind Silas. Her voice shook. “I really didn’t mean anything—I just wanted to share…”

I stepped forward. I tried to pull her out.

“Enough.” Silas stepped in front of her. His brow was tight. “Serena, she’s young. She doesn’t think everything through. Don’t make a big deal out of it.”

I stared at him.

Young. Doesn’t think things through. Don’t make a big deal.

When a client called me a trophy wife, he’d paid millions to break the contract. He said, “No one talks about my wife that way.”

I looked at his face. The man who once defended me—now a stranger.

I held back the sting in my eyes. My voice shook. “Silas. Am I overreacting?”

His patience was visibly thinning.

“Serena, just because people call you a mistress doesn’t make you one. You’re my wife. That hasn’t changed.”

I didn’t argue. I didn’t ask more.

I walked into the bedroom and closed the door.

I pulled out a divorce agreement from the bottom drawer. Silas had already signed it years ago.

It was his promise when we got married.

“Serena, if I ever wrong you, take this and leave.”

I said it would never happen.

I never thought I’d actually use it.

I took photos of every page and sent them to my lawyer.

“Mr. Webb, is this still valid?”

“Valid. Mr. Sterling signed it already. Once you sign, the process will be much faster.”

I signed. I took a photo. I sent it.

His people had changed.

It was time for me to leave.
