I Married The Beast Commander, Not His Match Chapter 07

Julian set his fork down and looked at him calmly.

I didn’t move. My heart was hammering.

[OMG OMG OMG, the ML is HERE!]

[The jealousy is radiating through my screen rn!]

[Wait, what did he just say? “A few days”?? Hasn’t he been MIA this whole time??]

Gideon crossed the room in three steps and grabbed my wrist.

His grip was like a vise.

“Come home with me.”

I yanked free.

“Home where? That’s your home. Not mine.”

His amber eyes flashed with a dangerous red.

“Audrey, you’re my wife.”

“Not for long.”

The sound that left me wasn’t quite a laugh.

“You

got the divorce papers, didn’t you? Just sign them. I don’t want your money, I don’t want the house. I just want this land.”

I grabbed a spare copy of the papers from the counter and tossed them at his feet. He looked down at

them.

[Damn, the FL is COLD.]

[She’s not even taking his money?? He’s getting off WAY too easy.]

Julian stood up.

He spoke without a trace of urgency.

“Audrey invited me for lunch. You’re just in time. Want to join us?”

Gideon’s head snapped toward Julian. His wolf ears pinned back, bristling with hostility.

“What are you doing here?”

julian smiled. “Business. Audrey and I are partnering on a project for this property.

Gideon moved in one sharp step and pulled me behind him. He planted himself between me and

Julian.

“She’s not going into business with you.”

I stepped around him.

“My land. My call.”

Gideon stared at me like I’d just hit him.

[Wait, the ML’s jealousy is NOT normal…]

[Shouldn’t he be filing for divorce right now??]

[Hold on… does the ML NOT want to divorce her??]

Gideon’s voice dropped. “Come home. We need to talk.”

“Say it here.”

Gideon glanced at Julian, his jaw clenching. “…Alone.”

Thesitated.

I turned to Julian. “Go ahead and eat. Don’t let it get cold.”

Behind me, Gideon’s knuckles cracked.

I followed him to the edge of the property.

The sun was dropping low, and the crops rippled in the breeze, deep and living green.

Gideon turned to face me. His voice came out raw.

“The papers you sent… I’m not signing them.”

I stared at him.

[??? The ML won’t agree to the divorce??]

[Shouldn’t he be desperate to get rid of her??]

[It’s over, it’s over. The whole plot just went off the rails.]

I found my voice.

“Why? The match was wrong. I’m not your true mate.”

“Who told you?”

“Does it matter?”

“Did Chloe come to see you?”

I didn’t answer. That was answer enough.

Gideon took a deep breath.

“That’s why I’ve been gone. I was dealing with this.”

“There was an error in the Registry’s data, but it’s still under review.”

He paused. “Even if the final review confirms we’re not true mates… I’m not sure I want a divorce.’

I looked him in the eye. “‘Not sure’? So you still might.”

Gideon was quiet for a long time. “My family… they’re pushing hard.”

“So that’s what you’ve been doing? Fighting them on this?”

He didn’t deny it.

I smiled, and it tasted bitter.

“Gideon, did you know Chloe had already tried on a wedding dress?”

His head snapped up. “What?”

“She posted it online. You didn’t see it?”

I kept my voice even. “Have you two picked a date? Let me know. I’ll send a gift.”

Gideon grabbed my shoulders. His fingers dug in hard enough to bruise.

“There’s nothing between us.”

“Nothing?” I held his gaze. “You served her portions, wiped her mouth, took her out for her birthday. That’s nothing?”
