Rejected by My Pack, Crowned by the Empire Chapter 07

Zayne came to an abrupt stop, his pupils narrowing.

“Serena?”

Frowning, he followed after her on instinct.

The clinic door hung ajar.

Serena’s impatient voice drifted out.

“Quickly draft a formal diagnosis form and state that I’m terminally ill.”

The doctor’s face was pale, sweat beading on his forehead.

“Miss, I really can’t do this anymore.”

“I’ve forged countless medical records for you throughout these years-bone cancer, leukemia,

depression. All of it was made up.”

“Quickly draft a formal diagnosis form and state that I’m terminally ill”

Serena’s face darkened.

“If you refuse to prepare this diagnosis, I will march straight out and file an official complaint

against you immediately.”

The doctor went pale.

Serena smirked.

“The worst consequence for me is a simple scolding from my family. But you? I can easily let

unethical conduct become public knowledge nationwide. Good luck getting hired anywhere after

that.”

your

The doctor’s hands trembled with rage.

But he didn’t dare call her bluff. After a long moment, he sank dejectedly back into his chair.

He picked up his pen.

“This is the last time. The very last time.”

“But miss-what are you even doing this for?”

“You’re perfectly healthy. Why go to all this trouble pretending to be sick?”

Serena took the terminal diagnosis notice, studying it with satisfaction.

“It all boils down to Evelyn.”

“If she hadn’t clung to this household and fought me tooth and nail for what rightfully belongs to me, I never would’ve needed to pull off all these schemes.”

“Mom and Dad’s love, my brother’s attention, Damon’s affection-all of it was supposed to be

mine.”

“So long as my illness appears critical enough, everyone will revolve around me endlessly”

She smiled smugly.

“With this diagnosis, they’ll give me whatever I want.”

“This time, I’m going to drive Evelyn out for good.”

Zayne stood rooted to the spot, utterly thunderstruck.

They’d all suspected Serena was faking, deep down. But they’d told themselves she suffered from deep insecurity and a crippling fear of losing her family.

They’d pitied her for being an orphan. Pitied her every time she cried that Evelyn was bullying her, trying to push her out.

They never imagined the one doing the pushing was Serena.

And the one who would lose her family was me.

Back home, Zayne told them everything.

The living room fell deathly quiet.

The glass slipped from my mother’s hand, shattering on the floor.

My father’s face went white, as if he’d aged ten years in an instant.

Damon’s fists clenched so hard his knuckles went white.

My mother covered her face, tears streaming down.

“How could this happen…”

She thought back to every time Serena had cried about me bullying her. Every time I’d tried to

explain, my eyes red, begging her to believe me.

And she never had.

“What have we done? We hurt our own daughter for this ungrateful, treacherous child.”

My father hung his head, his eyes red, unable to speak.

Damon closed his eyes. All he could see was my back as I walked away that day–alone, head held high, never looking back.

And every single one of them had stayed behind with Serena. Not one person had followed me.

Overwhelming remorse washed over every single one of them.

Soon after, Serena came home.

The second she walked in, she pulled out the diagnosis notice, her eyes bloodshot and puffy from excessive weeping.

“Mom, the doctor said I’m getting worse. I don’t have much time left.”

“I only have one last wish before I die…”

She waited for my mother to pull her into a hug, for my father’s sympathy, for Zayne’s comfort.

But the living room was eerily silent.

No one moved. No one spoke.

Serena froze.

She looked up and found everyone staring at her, their eyes cold and unfamiliar.

Panic flickered across her face.

“Mom, Dad… what’s wrong?”

My father shot to his feet and hurled the recording transcript at her face.

“Still putting on this charade?!”

“One day, I’m going to drive Evelyn out for good.”

Her vicious, malicious words reverberated endlessly across the living room.

Serena’s face went white.

“That’s not I didn’t—”

My mother stared at her through tears, her voice hoarse.

“How many more lies have you told us over the years?”

Serena knew there was no point denying it anymore.

She ground her jaw tightly in rage and desperation.

“I only did it because I was terrified of losing you!”

“When you adopted me, you promised you’d love me most, that I’d be your only priority! Why couldn’t you keep that promise?!”

“Why did you have to bring Evelyn back? Why do you constantly rub it in my face that I’m just an orphan and she’s your real daughter?!”
