A Letter from Alpha After Ten Years Chapter 04

Liam froze.

“Good. You… you came around. I swear, I only love you. My wolf bows only to you.”

He turned and went back to Sophie.

Her excited cheer drifted out of the room.

“Liam, really? She said yes?”

Then Liam’s voice, thick with pleasure, “Sophie, you’ll be my fated mate soon.”

I stood outside the room, listening to their joy.

Maybe the Moon Goddess got it wrong. Maybe Liam and I were never meant to be.

Day Two.

Liam slid a document across the table. [Severance Agreement.]

“Sophie wants me for the whole ceremony—just that day.” He kept his eyes down. “One day, then we’ll do the bond again. Immediately.”

He pushed another paper forward—a declaration of mutual consent to restore the fated bond.

“If you don’t trust it, I’ll have them add another contract.”

I didn’t hesitate. I signed.

“Not necessary.”

The Last Day.

The pack altar had been transformed into pure white.

Sophie stood on the steps, draped in an oversized white gown. The gauze on her wrists and ankles was completely hidden.

She clasped Liam’s arm, her smile sweet.

I stood among the crowd and watched in silence.

Sophie’s gaze found me through the floral arch.

I swear I saw the challenge in her eyes.

Then she gasped. “My ring! The ring is gone!”

People stirred, searching the grounds.

Liam frowned, ordering his Beta to find another one.

Sophie’s eyes stayed fixed on me. Her face was distraught, on the verge of tears.

“Serena!”

“Can I borrow yours? Just in a pinch!”

“Just for the ceremony. I’ll give it back after.”

Liam walked over to me, voice as gentle as ever.

“Serena, just lend it to her.”

“You never really liked that diamond anyway. I’ll buy you a nicer one later. A more expensive one. Okay?”

I shook my head, my voice trembling. “Liam, you can’t see she’s doing this on purpose? That’s my ring. You don’t get to decide for me.”

The day we bonded, we swore together—no matter what happened, we’d never remove our bonding tokens.

Sophie started crying.

Liam’s face hardened. “Serena, you gave in once. Giving in one more time won’t kill you.”

“You’re giving her that ring whether you like it or not.” He started prying my fingers open, one by one. My strength was nothing against his grip.

The ring scraped across my knuckle.

Pain shot up my finger as skin tore.

Blood seeped from the base of my finger, dripping onto the white marble floor.

“You brought this on yourself.” He let go coldly, turned, and handed the ring to Sophie.

Music swelled in the hall.

Sophie took Liam’s arm and walked toward the floral arch under everyone’s gaze.

I stayed frozen, throat closing up.

The pain was too much.

A mate’s betrayal hurts worse than swallowing a thousand silver needles.

My wolf was going insane, screaming at me to run—to get away from this bastard.

Even if it killed me, I couldn’t look back.

I turned and left.

Under moonlight, a broken wolf ran between mountains and sea.

…

The harbor.

The boat pulled in.

As it cast off, the sea wind poured in.

The pack grew smaller. Buildings shrank to tiny dots.

The notes lit up again. Future Liam. [Things around me have changed a lot. You kept your promise, didn’t you?]

[Thank you for letting me go.]

Tears blurred my vision.

I typed my final reply, [We’re even now. Don’t ever see me again.]

Not now. Not ten years from now. Never again.

I hurled my phone into the sea, severing every connection to Liam.

At the same time, Liam’s wolf paced in agitation.

“I can’t feel them anymore.”

“The bond is fading.”

Ding—

Liam was mid-motion, slipping the ring onto Sophie’s finger. He froze.

The ring slipped from his hand and spiraled into the grass.

Like a final warning from the Moon Goddess.
