Me & Child: Fake Lady’s Stepping Stones Chapter 02

Me & Child: Fake Lady’s Stepping Stones Chapter 02 The Only Daughter

I eventually blacked out from the pain. When I woke up, it was already the next day

Tyler’s voice carried from outside my hospital room. “Saul, the best time for the blood sacrifice is noon today. Should we all go? Aren’t we leaving anyone behind to watch Monica?”

After a moment of silence, Dad replied, “Today is a big day for Cassic. This project determines whether s can take over the company.

“We need to be by her side at such a critical time. As for Monica, she’s badly injured already Just leave ber

be.”

Then, as if remembering something, Dad added, “Oh, when we return, arrange for the specialists to provide Monica with proper treatment.”

All I could hear from outside was Tyler’s agreement.

I lay in bed, my eyes empty.

Dad knew exactly how much I had longed for a family of my own.

Yet he still didn’t hesitate to target the babies in my womb, and even went so far as to strip me of my ability to have children.

If I had known it would come to this, I wish I’d never returned when they found me.

An hour later, the LED screen on the building outside my hospital room suddenly lit up.

I turned my head and saw it was broadcasting the opening ceremony for the project Cassie was in charge of.

Dad stood right behind Cassie, holding a red box.

Cassie was in the middle of giving an interview to reporters.

“Ms. Kent, this is your first major project. Rumor has it that if this project succeeds, you’ll inherit the Kent Group. Is that true?”

Cassie smiled sweetly. “This is just a project I’m leading. The final decision rests with my father.”

The reporter then pointed the microphone at Dad, who was looking at Cassie with immense pride.

Taking the microphone, Dad stated without hesitation. “The Kent Group will be fully handed over to Cassie upon this project’s completion. Please keep your eyes on the Kent Group.”

“But Mr. Kent, I’ve heard you have a biological daughter, and that Ms. Cassie Kent is your adopted daughter. If you give the group to Ms. Cassie Kent, will your biological daughter agree?”

A reporter on site challenged.

Dad answered without hesitation, “Cassic is my real daughter. She will be the only daughter I ever acknowledge.”

Then he looked at Cassie with pride.

He added, “Well, it’s time for the ceremony to begin. Please excuse me.”

Holding the red box, Dad turned and walked away.

Then, through a gap in the crowd on the broadcast, I saw him bury that red box beside an unfinished support column.

A sudden, sharp pain gripped my heart. Remembering what I’d overheard, I instantly knew what was inside that box.

Watching them shovel dirt over it, I rolled right off the hospital bed.

I struggled, desperate to get closer to that box. “No. Don’t bury them in the ground.”

I couldn’t hold back anymore. Heavy tears rolled down my cheeks.

Those were my children.

My wounds tore open again from the fall to the floor.

Blood stained the tiles. I just lay there, watching the building’s screen replay the interview segment again and again.

It felt like my own heart was being torn apart with each repetition.

Right then, my phone suddenly rang. I reached out and dragged it over.

It was a message from Cassie.

“You saw the interview, didn’t you? I made sure they kept playing it on the LED screen right across from

your room.

“See that red box Dad was holding? That thing held your unborn brats. I just told Dad some mystic said we needed twins from a close relative for the blood sacrifice.

“Then I just set up some thugs to play their part. Dad bought it without a second thought. At least your brats were good for something, buried in the dirt of my project.”

I couldn’t take it anymore. A mouthful of blood surged up and spilled from my lips.

“Monica! How did you get on the floor? Where are the doctors and nurses?”

Dad rushed in, his voice frantic with worry as he hurried to lift me from the floor.

Tyler’s tears fell freely, his face a mask of heartbreak. “We were only gone a short while. How did you get hurt so badly?”

How could they act so loving toward me? As if they actually meant it.

I couldn’t stop my body from trembling, overwhelmed with disgust.

“Where are my babies? Even if they didn’t make it, at 32 weeks, there had to be bodies, right?”

I couldn’t hold back and I screamed the words.

Dad and Tyler didn’t even blink. They kept looking at me with that understanding act, without a trace of guilt.

“I didn’t want you to grieve too much, so I already buried them,” Tyler explained with patience. “It’s a blessed resting place. Once you’re out of the hospital, I’ll take you to see them, okay?”

Dad nodded along.

They were still lying right to my face, without a shred of guilt.

They knew better than anyone-my babies weren’t laid to rest in some blessed ground.

They were buried as a blood sacrifice.

For Cassie’s sake, the two people closest to me had trampled my children and me straight into the dirt.

I shut my eyes tight and refused to look at them anymore.
