On My Wedding Day, I Married Someone Else Chapter 19

“Derek. You’re an adult. Take responsibility for your own actions. You’re no longer my responsibility.”

“But before. You used to take such good care of me. You handled everything for me.”

“Before, I cared about you. I thought that was love. Now. I’m tired. And there’s no love left. Goodbye, Derek.”

Derek went silent. I could hear his ragged, tearful breathing on the other end.

I hung up. No more entanglement.

Half an hour later. A new number. He sent a video.

He really went in.

Dim emergency lights. Rusted cage. Dark stains on the floor. Years old. Derek’s lips were pale from cold and nerves. His voice shook. The footage was unsteady.

“Savannah… Look. This place. Last year. We were right here. Watching that goddamn fight together. Remember?”

In the video, he stumbled toward the ring. The camera swayed. Nauseating.

A second clip came fast.

“Remember? The knife came from this direction. From the VIP section. Right at me. You screamed and shoved me away…”

Suddenly. Multiple flashlight beams cut through the entrance. Sirens. Harsh commands on the video.

“Police! Freeze! Hands where I can see them!”

The footage cut. The last message showed “Delivered.” Then nothing.

My heart gave one beat. Then settled back into stillness.

Ethan’s warm hand covered mine. He said nothing. Just watched me gently. Questioning. Supportive. Both in his eyes.

“…Need me to check with the guys in that precinct? See what happened?”

He’d probably been arrested.

I thought about it. Turned off my phone. Put it in the nightstand drawer.

“No. It’s his own choice.”
